What is the nature of this job?: Replace existing water main
Comment: A week ago I experienced low water pressure throughout the home. I found a leak in the service line outside the wall of my home. I shut off the water at the meter and dug down to the service line at the location of the leak. I discovered 1-inch galvanized piping, severely corroded, leaking at a brass fitting that was once for an old shutoff. I cut the galvanized pipe about six inches from the fitting, and the rest of the pipe broke off from the fitting at the threads. This pipe is too corroded to re-thread, or to temporarily fix with compression couplings. The existing service line is located between 2.5 and 3 feet underground, and runs 45 feet from my wall to the meter. I have not dug up the service line under the crawl space. There is a large, mature oak tree in the middle of my front yard that I would very much like to preserve. Therefore, I would prefer if whoever digs the trench is able to work around any large roots, rather than cut through them, in order to maintain the tree’s health. I am hoping to use pex rather than pvc or cpvc for the new service line, which should at least make it easier to route around any pesky roots (or so I’m hoping). I am a Realtor who does a great deal of business in OKC and the surrounding metro area, and I would love to find a reliable plumber who I can refer out to past, present, and future clients in need of plumbing services. I’m looking for a relatively quick turnaround, and most importantly, a fair price and care taken to preserve the life of my oak tree. I have contractors and contacts for just about every other aspect of homeownership to refer to my clients, but have never found a plumber to refer to those who ask me for one. I tend to do my own plumbing repairs in my home, but I need to call on the pros for this one. I marked “within 2 weeks” for my timeline, but I’d really prefer it not take that long, as I’ve been without water in my home for a week. I didn’t select “1-2 days” as I’m not trying to pay the emergency rate

Comment: I experienced low water pressure and discovered a leak in my service line near the house. I dug up the line to find severely corroded 1-inch galvanized steel piping. The leak was at a brass connection where a very, very old (now defunct) water shut off valve at the house once was. I cut the galvanized pipe about six inches from the connection and it broke off from the brass fitting at the threading. Pipe was too corroded for me to do a temporary fix using compression fittings. Not worth fixing, need replaced. I'm hoping to use pex rather than pvc or cpvc. Existing service line is located between 2.5 and 3 feet underground, and it's almost exactly 45 feet from the wall of the house to the curb stop. I have not dug up any of the service line under the crawl space. I have a large, mature oak tree in the middle of my front yard. I would like to preserve the health of this tree by having whoever does the work avoid severing large roots wherever possible. I am a Realtor who does a lot of business in the metro and have contractors I like to refer out for most things, but have yet to find a plumber. I tend to do my own plumbing repairs at my home, but I need to call on the pros for this one. Hoping to be able to throw you more business via past/present/future clients if I can get a decently quick turnaround at a fair price and preserve the health of my tree. I marked "within 2 weeks" for the timeline, but would really, really prefer to have this done asap, as it's been a week without water already. I just didn't want to get quoted the "emergency repair" rate.
