"Sergiy and his team did a phenomenal job with our basement project. The level of workmanship was outstanding. The team of workers was reliably on time and always courteous and respectful. They handled every little detail of the construction - framing, electric, sheet-rocking, installations, flooring, painting, and more. Also, Sergiy took great care to consult with us about every design consideration, and offered great practical solutions. We highly recommend My Town, and will definitely hire them again for our next project!"

"Overall experience, from visiting their site to select the granite, scheduling the template and countertop installation, and the installation itself was positive. Installers were very conscientious in their work"

"CounterFitters is the best company on HomeAdvisor, and we've used many. Very professional. Extremely knowledgeable with their many years of doing their craft. Friendly, courteous and addressed our concerns and questions in laymans terms. We have not only had them install a beautiful counter top, but we will have them back for other tile projects that we know will be done RIGHT. We recommend Counterfitters wholeheartedly. "Everything was great. Jorge and Jason came to my house on time for an estimate. We met them at the Oneonta Builders show at the mall. The price was about what we expected to pay, so we hired them the next day. They showed up about a week later and began the work. They had the stairs taken out and the new ones in the first day, with most of the wall and built and drywall applied. The next day  was painting, finish carpentry and they even bought me a mounting bracket for my big screen TV (as a gift for us using them) attached it to thwe wall and connected my television. Any little thing my wife and I were concerned about was taken care of immediately. It was an overall pleasant experience in this day and age where you hear about home improvement ripoffs. We wolud recommend them highly to anyone looking for remodelers.

"Frank was able to come on a Saturday, which was convenient for me. He was very friendly. He checked the fuse box and the gas line, before checking the furnace. He saw the thermocouple was burnt out, so he started by replacing that. He lit the pilot, and the furnace came on. In less than an hour, my furnace was working again. I will call Mr. & Mrs. Fix It again if another problem arises."

FAQs for laminate countertops installation projects in Oneonta, NY

With the right care and a professional installation, laminate counters last 10 to 15 years. Wipe up spills quickly, clean with a nonabrasive product, and keep hot pots off the surface to prevent warping or scorch marks. Limiting prolonged moisture at seams also pays off. Your installer can walk you through simple maintenance habits that will help you squeeze every year out of your new counters.

Yes—if the existing laminate is solid and level, a pro can bond a fresh sheet right on top. They’ll rough up the old surface, apply the correct adhesive, and make precise cuts so the new layer sits tight. Skipping steps can lead to bubbles or weak seams, so this project is best left to an experienced installer who has the tools to deliver a clean, durable finish.

Absolutely, you can give tired laminate a facelift with paint, tile, or a concrete overlay instead of a full tear-out. The key is thorough prep: clean, degrease, and lightly sand so the new finish sticks.

Follow the product instructions for primer, sealers, and cure times, or hire a pro if you’d rather avoid the mess. When done correctly, these updates freshen the look and add a few more years of useful life.

Mix baking soda with just enough water to form a paste, then spread it over the stain and let it sit for five minutes. Wipe away with a soft, damp cloth—don’t scrub, as abrasives can dull the surface. Repeat if needed. For stubborn marks, ask your installer about cleaners made specifically for laminate.

Laminate isn’t built to battle the elements. Water, UV rays, and temperature swings quickly cause swelling, fading, and mold. Even a covered patio won’t protect the material for long. If you’re planning an outdoor kitchen or bar, skip laminate and choose a weather-tough option like stone, tile, or concrete so you don’t end up replacing your counters after the first season.

Traditional laminate isn’t the greenest choice. Most sheets rely on plastics like melamine and can emit trace VOCs over time. They also can’t be recycled at the end of their life. A few brands now use recycled pulp cores, but plastics still make up much of the product.

If sustainability tops your list, consider natural or recyclable materials such as solid wood, stone, or recycled glass instead.
