"Rick was super responsive when I emailed him and came out to the house with plenty of samples. He measured that day and was able to set me up with temporary blinds until the real ones arrived. The blinds are fantastic and Rick was great to work with! I love supporting a small business and would easily use him again and recommend him to a friend!"

About 5 years ago, I had Morning Star out to provide a bid to have 5 windows installed.  I went with another company only because the other company and Morning Star offered the same exact product for the same price, but I received the bid from the other company first, so I went with them.  An unpleasant conversation with an employee from that organization helped me come to the conclusion that I would never use that organization again.  Fast forward 5 years and my husband and I we were ready to install more windows; this time 16 windows.  I remembered Melissa from Morning Star, so along with 4 other companies; I began the process of getting bids.

Eventually, we selected Morning Star to install our windows.  Sometimes you go with a company simply because you like the salesperson. Sometime you don't because an employee is inappropriate.  My point being, I liked Melissa and I did not like the inappropriate comment made by the employee from the other company (just something for installers and salespeople to think about. I am sure there are other people that feel as I do). Melissa is kind and seems to know her business. She listened to me, and from our conversation offered a product that matched my needs.

After Melissa ordered the windows, about 3 weeks later the install began with Darren and Justin.  I liked Darren and Justin. They were very professional and seemed to know what they were doing too.  Darren, in particular, you could tell wants to do work of which he is proud.  When the first day of work was completed, Justin did a great job of cleaning up before they left.

Justin and Darren started the install on the Wednesday before July 4. Because they began a few days before a holiday weekend, Darren and Justin had to return the following Monday to finish the job.   When they returned on Monday, a third guy joined them (Miguel). Miguel seemed to work mostly on wrapping the windows.  He did an above average job. The only part of this install I did not feel was above average work was the caulking.  Don?t get me wrong, it was not ?bad.? It just was not outstanding.  Let me also say that Melissa did offered to have Darren remove and reseal any of the caulk in areas I did not approve, but I declined.  It has always been my thought that if someone did not do a good job the first time around, then why is doing it a second time going to make a difference.  Sometimes, redoing it ends up being messier than before. You pick your battles.  Of course, if the functionality was inferior or if the job was just downright sloppy, I would have insisted the caulk be redone, and I am sure Darren, Justin or Miguel would have done it without hesitation.

Oh!  I did receive the wrong screens.  Melissa immediately re-ordered new screens. Not including the screens, the job was completed on July 8 and Melissa informed me that the new screens will arrive and be installed by July 17.  I feel that is acceptable.

"The whole process went very smooth.  From the first estimate until completion.  JD is very easy to communicate with, and is very professional, and a man of his word.
We have several estimates on replacing our window and doors.  Wood Rot was the highest of the three by a several thousand dollars.  We choose Wood Rot solutions anyway.  And very glad that we did.  His service and workmanship is well worth the extra money.
WE could not be any happier with our windows, and doors.  And would recommend that if you want things done right, I would pay the extra cost and use Wood Rot Solutions.

"After I approved the drapes, I was sent an invoice for $700. I paid the invoice. It's been over a year and despite numerous emails (over a dozen) with Amanda Zettel of Homemade Design, I still have not received the drapes or a refund. I was very satisfied with all of Homemade Design's work up until this experience."

FAQs for blinds or shades repair projects in Overland Park, KS

If you're wondering whether repairing your blinds is worth it, consider the quality and age of your blinds. For high-end or custom blinds, repairing them can preserve their quality, functionality, and design, making repair a smart choice. Immediate repairs maintain the original look and performance. However, if your blinds are over six years old, extensively damaged, or of lower quality, replacing them might be more cost-effective, as new blinds offer better efficiency and modern technology. Weigh the repair costs against the benefits of replacement to make the best decision for your situation.

When damage undermines the integrity and appearance of your blinds, replacement becomes the clear option. You should replace your blinds when damage to slats or fabric prevents you from obtaining an exact match, thereby compromising appearance and function. Severe damage increases repair complexity and expense. Replacing blinds not only restores superior performance but also creates an opportunity for aesthetic upgrades and lasting benefits.

You should plan to replace your blinds at least every 10 years, with clear signs of wear, such as discoloration, deterioration, or functional issues, emerging by five years. Regular evaluation of style, quality, and performance supports an informed decision. While minor repairs may temporarily extend usability, a complete replacement secures optimal operation and updated design.

Establish a regular maintenance routine to keep your blinds looking and functioning their best. Clean them regularly with mild, specialized products and follow the manufacturer's recommended usage guidelines. UV-blocking window film can protect against fading and warping from sun exposure. Regular inspections and proactive maintenance will preserve their appearance and performance, extending their overall lifespan.

If you pull the blind string and it does not move, it indicates a malfunction in the mechanism, such as a broken cord, a jammed cord lock, or a stuck component. Inspect the string for breaks and examine the headrail for any obstructions. Replace the defective cord or cord lock as necessary to restore proper operation and maintain functionality.

Yes, you can replace your blind string yourself by using a replacement kit available at home improvement stores. Accurate measurement of the string diameter is essential for a perfect fit. Gather the necessary tools and follow the manufacturer’s instructions rigorously to secure a safe, lasting fix. If the task demands more time than anticipated, hiring a professional is advisable to avoid further damage.
