"We are very happy with the Hunter Douglas shades that we ordered from Blinds for Less. Ellen came to our house the day after I called her. We were looking for roller shades for our screened in porch (where we get lots of blinding sun in the late afternoon/early evening). She brought samples and measured the next day. We placed the order with her that day. The shades were ordered and they were installed in less than a month. We are very happy with the shades and the service we received. I would definitely order from Blinds for Less again! Thank you!"

"My double hung Anderson windows came with the house and work perfectly, except the double pain glass is not treated UV or infrared. After considering window replacement I decided the best option was to professionally tent the windows for one tenth the price of new windows. I found Arctic Window Tinting in the Angie's magazine with a discount for members and them called for an estimate. I spoke with Bob who answered my questions and scheduled a home visit at my convenience. He measured the 24 windows and 2 skylights and discussed the options. He was very professional and I never felt pressured to up-sell or make a decision. After reviewing the options, I selected the Purlite 40 to give me almost 100% UV rejection and 80% heat rejection. The installer was very meticulous and careful to get every window perfect. The results look like factory tinting and the natural shade does not diminish the wonderful view I have of the backyard and forest. Even close up you cannot tell it was not part of the original window. The effect is just what I wanted. We no longer have to close the blinds on the southwest side of our house. Our house stays cooler and we are saving energy for only a small investment in tinting."

"Alex and Hector, (I believe that was their names) showed were good workers and did exactly what I requested within the allotted time.  The moved a heavy box television from the first floor to the basement, moved the flat-screen TV, VCR, cable box glass-topped stand from one side of a room to the other.  They moved my living room furniture where I wanted.  They also went to Home Depot to purchase the outdoor barrier and all equipment needed,  replaced the one that was destroyed and removed the debris from the old barrier.

"Julio and his team did an excellent job repairing and renovating our 12 x 24 screen porch. They jumped quickly on the project, worked steadily through some frigid winter weather, and completed everything in time for early spring use. Project involved carpentry, structural improvements, painting, carpeting, and installation of new doors and screen-windows. They also handled repair and painting of exterior entrances to our house. Reasonable pricing, good workmanship, highly recommended!"

FAQs for blinds or shades repair projects in Washington DC, DC

If you're wondering whether repairing your blinds is worth it, consider the quality and age of your blinds. For high-end or custom blinds, repairing them can preserve their quality, functionality, and design, making repair a smart choice. Immediate repairs maintain the original look and performance. However, if your blinds are over six years old, extensively damaged, or of lower quality, replacing them might be more cost-effective, as new blinds offer better efficiency and modern technology. Weigh the repair costs against the benefits of replacement to make the best decision for your situation.

When damage undermines the integrity and appearance of your blinds, replacement becomes the clear option. You should replace your blinds when damage to slats or fabric prevents you from obtaining an exact match, thereby compromising appearance and function. Severe damage increases repair complexity and expense. Replacing blinds not only restores superior performance but also creates an opportunity for aesthetic upgrades and lasting benefits.

You should plan to replace your blinds at least every 10 years, with clear signs of wear, such as discoloration, deterioration, or functional issues, emerging by five years. Regular evaluation of style, quality, and performance supports an informed decision. While minor repairs may temporarily extend usability, a complete replacement secures optimal operation and updated design.

Establish a regular maintenance routine to keep your blinds looking and functioning their best. Clean them regularly with mild, specialized products and follow the manufacturer's recommended usage guidelines. UV-blocking window film can protect against fading and warping from sun exposure. Regular inspections and proactive maintenance will preserve their appearance and performance, extending their overall lifespan.

If you pull the blind string and it does not move, it indicates a malfunction in the mechanism, such as a broken cord, a jammed cord lock, or a stuck component. Inspect the string for breaks and examine the headrail for any obstructions. Replace the defective cord or cord lock as necessary to restore proper operation and maintain functionality.

Yes, you can replace your blind string yourself by using a replacement kit available at home improvement stores. Accurate measurement of the string diameter is essential for a perfect fit. Gather the necessary tools and follow the manufacturer’s instructions rigorously to secure a safe, lasting fix. If the task demands more time than anticipated, hiring a professional is advisable to avoid further damage.
