"Customer Service is NOT dead... I spent some time today trying to trouble shoot why my garage door opener wouldn't operate. Worked fine yesterday, but late yesterday afternoon, zip, wouldn't work. Installed 7/15/20; door and opener. Spent 90+ minutes on the phone with Genie; concluded it was the motherboard; the tech (who was great) wanted to be sure it was the board, so set me up for a call back with another senior tech...after waiting 4 hours and a 20 minute chat session on the website, I said enough for today. The chat person (Jordan, who was also great) said she would put the call in the queue, but it could be 24-72 hrs. before the call. (I said, I guess my time is worthless; and what if I'm not home?). Nothing she could do, but commiserated. So, I called the installer, MID-ILLINI DOORS and spoke to Marcus Sparks the owner/installer. Recapped the conversations with Genie and the conclusion it was the board. "Are you home?" "Yes." I have that opener in my truck, I'm on the way... We switched out the front panel of the openers, reprogrammed the wall mount and the 2 remotes...voila; back in business. NO CHARGE; I'm sending a gift card. IF YOU NEED GARAGE DOOR SERVICE OR REPAIR OR REPLACEMENT OR BOTH...I CANNOT RECOMMEND MID-ILLINI DOOR HIGHLY ENOUGH!!"

"I pay a monthly fee to CHW for insurance against equipment failure. Over a month ago CHW sent a repair technician to fix both of my garage doors, the technician made an adjustment on one door and chanced the opener on the other. A week or so ago the second door failed to open. Yes, my door opener is old, but the Warrantee says, if it can’t be fixed it will be replaced. CHW paid the tech $100 and said the rest $200 is on me. Please tell me why I should stay with CHW if I have to pay 2/3rds of the cost to replace the door opener? On a separate issue: Granted I accepted CHW’s offer of a Lowe’s card to replace my dishwasher, because I was unaware of how much dishwashers sell for, it cost me an additional 300. Again, please give me a reason for staying with CHW"

"Well, the first time the replacement was ordered it was the wrong one, which of course, delayed the installation a week. When it was finally installed I had to pay an additional $850 for code upgrades. This I was not informed of by Home Shield. Then we noticed that there was water on the garage floor and found that the pipe coming in from the wall was leaking at the wall so had to call the plumbing company back out to fix it. They first tried to say it was not their fault but since there wasn't a leak before they installed they did fix it. I have used Home Shield a few times before and never had a problem. Some of the companies they use are not the best so you have to research them before you commit. I have found HS service to be good if you do your homework. At the end of the day I was without hot water for almost 3 weeks but it was do to the plumbing company they sent out."
