"Ron from ABR has always been a pleasure to work with.  He was always on time for appointments, gave great opinions on colors and design (for the first job, we had colors picked out that we wanted to go with and he gently offered some suggestions and subtle changes that really improved the look... by the second job, we didn't even look at colors until Ron came out and consulted us... for no fee I might add).

His estimates always seem exceedingly fair.  I admit originally being a little worried that we were getting a "cheaper" contractor compared to other estimates until I saw the finished product!  The work is tremendous. 

For the first job, his crew went above in beyond.  I had a 1ft X 1ft hole in my ceiling from a water leak that I was in the middle of fixing.  I assured him I'd have the hole patched before his crew got there but he told me not to worry about it and that his guys would do it for free.  They did and you'd never know a hole was there.  They also rescrewed lots of the drywall where it was starting to crack and where nails were starting to pop and put on a thin coat of mud to even out some spots and fix cracks and holes.  I thought I had only hired painters... I was blown away by this!  Every piece of trim was re-caulked and painted.  Ron said it would most likely take two days but he sent a huge crew and completed it in one.  They worked late and made sure to walk me through each room and implored me to find anything wrong.  I could not.

For the second job, Ron's crew painted my upstairs interior as well as power-washed my extremely dirty siding and painted all the outside trim and soffits (different colors than what was originally there).  The amount of compliments from neighbors alone on the transformation of my house has been worth the price.  The ABR crew was even good enough to paint some of the trim and garage with a "trial color" as I wasn't sure how it would look.  When they were done we all looked at it, decided it would look better with the other color as an accent, and they happily changed it over without a concern or additional cost.  Just amazing service!

Finally, I had finished my empty basement.  I had hung about 60 sheets of drywall and another 20 on the ceilings.  There was about 800 square feet worth of rooms (Living space, rec room, kitchenette, bathroom, hallway and stairwell).  I wanted a professional tape and mud job along with paint and thus went to ABR.  Though I fancy myself a handyman, my own drywall install most likely wasn't the most "professional grade".  Some seams were a little rough and I wasn't able to use extra large sheets since I was doing it myself.  Ron's crew did a great job of taping and mudding everything and the paint looks fantastic.  The final results are walls and ceilings that look as good or better than everything else in my house.  They also layed some tile for me in the kitchenette and bathroom and it looks great as well.   They are obviously very very skilled drywallers and I would recommend them in a second."

"I had a horrible problem -- I had to clean up a relatives apartment in less than a week....a hoarder and a heavy smoker. Trash was piled in all rooms, kitchen had bugs and everything was sticky with cigarette smoke residue. Custom Craft responded to my call right away. I was so apprehensive about showing this mess to someone I thought I was going to be sick.

As soon as I saw Rich I knew that he was a professional and he could help me without being judgmental. He even told me it was not the worst he had seen. He did a very thorough review before giving me an estimate and started a couple of days later even though he had a full schedule. The relative was not on the premises and Rich and his team worked around the clock. The carpet needed shampooing 10 times! The walls were washed and sanitized. Garbage was removed and disposed of.

I thought they did a good job of decision-making on what was trash and what they tried to clean. They were very respectful of personal belongings and took great care to save everything they could. I was very pleased about that. Although the job took a couple of extra days over plan, it was habitable again.. After the fact I found one linen closet had not been missed but I was not going to complain!

This is a very expensive service but you need someone who knows how to do it properly with the right products and equipment.

"We are undertaking an extensive exterior renovation of our c.1927 Tudor Revival and badly needed masonry restoration represented Phase I.
This was our first experience with a provider found on Angie's List and we were very pleased. I received a very prompt response to my initial request for an estimate and in comparison to other quotes we obtained, A O Handy was most in line with the extent of restoration we felt necessary as well as within our budget.
The work began within a few days of our having signed the contract and continued daily until completion. I was especially impressed with the crew's punctuality and how respectful they were of the jobsite. They tidied up  the work area everyday before they left.
I was also impressed by how well they were able to match the color of the new mortar to that contained within the existing grout lines. They also cleaned up the unsightly repairs where the previous homeowner had attempted to repoint sections of the brickwork himself years ago.
In summary, if you're looking for quality, old world craftmanship, I would strongly recommend AO Handy. It truly was a pleasure dealing with Andy, his son Arthur and the rest of the crew.
I am hoping the next phases of our exterior renovation go as well as the masonry restoration did.

"Once I sent her all the measurements, it took her a little while to get the options back to me.  Overall, they're good designs.  However, they're very simplistic and give general ideas for space planning.  I was hoping to have a better idea for sizes of furniture for the space and some variations on staging.  
Jill was very responsive when I did have a question.  I'm not sure how helpful it is to have a virtual design done.  If we lived in similar cities, I'd probably use her again for help with additional designs.

"It is a waste of money. The great majority of people are not going to find any value out of the service. If you need design consultation, you need a full service consultation. If you already have knowledge and experience, and you just need to get a few ideas, then you don't need to pay for that. You can just get a magazine or a book since you already have the knowledge of basic designs in your head or a little bit of experience. To have someone call you and give you information over the phone, you are not getting the personal service that you need. You may as well take the money $49 and apply it to something else like getting someone else to come out and give you the service that you need. Because, you are not getting much, you are not getting anything at all. They are going to have you do the work. After talking to them and I was talking to other home designers, I found out that that was a waste of time and waste of money. I gave them a C because they didn't fail at what they do but they don't offer any value for what they do. There's not much value to it. The cost was fair. They didn't do a terrible job and the cost isn't terrible, it was only $49. It just has a very low value. For responsiveness I gave them a B because they will answer your phone and answer your emails."
