"Ben did a wonderful job on our kitchen remodel which included removal of a wall, new island built with cabinets, new flooring and general kitchen remodel. Ben clearly has a passion for cabinetry and woodworking. We have received wonderful comments on his cabinets and woodworking from friends and other vendors we used (counter install company). Only opportunity we saw for improvement were a couple small things which included price and services performed when a 3rd party contractor was hired by Ben. Overall would give an A and look forward to working with Wooden Hammer in the future."

"Barn Rescue – My barn was hit by a vehicle, which broke a large post and pushed section of siding out from under the roofline, plus major damage at ground level. Brad shored it up for the winter with an array of jacks and an enormous chain to ensure the thing wouldn’t fall down till they could return in the spring. Come spring, they fully replaced the damaged section’s support members and facade, and added bracing to the attic, rendering it stronger than before. Foundation support: The sagging beams and jerry-rigged support columns in the dirt basement of our 18th century house were inadequate. They dug and poured a dozen footings and lally columns, supporting a line of new 6x6 and 9x9 beams that provide solid support to the house above. They showed up promptly every day, worked fast, and left the site clean and finished. Both Brad and Chad have a deep knowledge about old houses and the techniques that were used, and I felt my historic register property was in good hands."

"These guys are amazing!!! We ran into unseen problems and Zeb gave me some awesome suggestions and designs to fix it for my new retro kitchen. He also remodeled my barbershop and built a platform which consists of a one of kind industrial rail all around that is more art than function. Let's move to the outside where his crew pays strict attention to detail and design and they then built a inground fire pit which my family has enjoy d very much. His design ideas and attention to date ail and perfection are what will keep me a longtime loyal client. Oh and let's not forget he is my snow removal service as well. This company is truly a one stop place to get everything I need done and he does big or small for me which I appreciate greatly."

"Installation of dishwasher and relocation of slide out trash/recycling center went well with minor issues discovered with existing plumbing. Rich was clear about what the issue was and provided us details on his recommended course of action. First job done!

The lack of any bathroom vent fans in this home was an issue in need of prompt resolution. Rich and I worked together to craft an attic mounted solution which is in place and functioning perfectly. 2nd job done!
Countertop extension required shoring up of existing cabinetry. No problem for Rich! 3rd job done!
Over the range microwave installation required additional carpentry as the desired external vent was blocked by existing wall framing studs. Sheetrock was removed, studs reworked and braced appropriately, vent and microwave installed and sheetrock repaired and painted. Looks and functions wonderfully and you would never know the wall had been apart. 4th job done!
Entry door replacement was relatively straightforward for the front door but the original back door was not even close to a standard size so additional work was required to reframe the doorway. This work was done flawlessly and we now have perfectly functioning entry doors front and back along with brand new storm doors as well. 5th job done!
Back step construction plans originally called for re-use of existing framing. Once we got into it, we realized that the best course of action was to simply reframe the entire landing and build new stairs with trex like material and pressure treated lumber. 6th job done!
Now nearing the top of our planned budget, we outlined a course of action for a few "nice to haves" and will be working with Rich in the fall to get those items wrapped up before winter.
Overall, all work was completed in a professional and courteous manner with consideration given to our budget, style choices and input as customers. Highly recommend this professional."

"I left my name and phone number at Laurie's Certified Construction booth at a home show. A few weeks later, Laurie phoned and set up an appointment for her daughter, Angel, to come to our home and assess our roof. She phoned twice, within a few minutes - once to set up the tentative appointment and once to confirm when she had spoken with Angel. Angel phoned the next day and asked to change the appointment because she had a previous commitment at the time that had been set. She called well before the appointment time and the new time was not inconvenient so I agreed. When Angel arrived and had introduced herself, she proceeded to assess our roof. She was very professional and explained everything clearly. She gave me a verbal estimate and explained what that covered and told me that Laurie would confirm the next day in writing. She also told me what the estimate would not cover. We have an area on the roof that may need new plywood, but she couldn't know for sure until they took the shingles off the roof. She said that they would not proceed with any unestimated work until it had been discussed with me and I agreed to the work. Laurie sent a written estimate via email along with information about the shingles and her insurance certificate. The total amount was the same as Angel had given us, but the amount of the down payment was different. I asked a few questions via email and received almost immediate replies.
We chose another contractor for two reasons: 1) the estimate from Laurie's Certified Construction was almost $ 2000 more than the highest of three other estimates we received; and 2) I was a bit concerned about the few discrepancies in communication between Laurie and Angel. If I was going to spend an extra $ 2000, I had to have a lot more confidence that there would be consistency in information provided at the site and that provided from the office."

FAQs for major home repair (general contractor) projects in Plattsburgh, NY

In many cases, it’s much less expensive to convert a bus than to buy an RV, especially if you’re considering a newer RV model, which can exceed $100,000.

Another huge benefit of school bus conversion is that you are in control of the renovation project. You get to pick your camper's new layout and all the appliances and furniture.

While school buses can easily cost $300,000 when they're new, you can often find used buses for just a few thousand dollars. These vehicles experience extreme depreciation due to government regulations; they can only be used for so long before they must be replaced. Due to those same regulations, other government agencies cannot purchase them for their own uses, so the consumer market is the only place they can go.

The length of time it takes to convert a bus depends on the scope of the project (and size of the bus), how much work is DIY vs. done by a professional contractor, and how much work you’re doing up front.

In general, expect at least a couple of months for a conversion, but larger conversions could take six months to a year. Remember: You can tackle projects as you go: Get the basic work done so that it’s livable, and then continue to enhance your living space over time.
