"I spoke Big Wave on the phone ans explained my problem (basement bathroom pump). He said he would get back to me, which he did when he stated he would. The upshot was- he had researched my problem and over the phone told me how to fix it myself. No charge, courteous, friendly, and prompt! Call this business for your plumbing issues. Terrific. 10 stars!!!!"

"Alex Greenhalgh repaired the upstairs bathtub drain expertly and efficiently. He arrived the morning after my first contact with him. It was a rough and dirty job in a 124 year old house. Alex handled it well. The cost was very reasonable. I am going to recommend Alex Greenhalgh wherever I can!"

"The sprayer in my kitchen sink started to leak – the tubing was cut and could not be repaired. I obtained the replacement part from Lowe’s. I called Rudi the Plumber for installation. The phone was answered promptly and in a courteous and friendly manner. They were able to fit me in the same day which was excellent news. Norm did the work quickly, and the replacement part works fine. <br> <br>Norm also took the time to briefly discuss with me some plumbing work for a near future bathroom remodel. He’s down to earth and easy to talk to. "

"Ken was great. He took the time to explain not just about our new system and how it works but all of my many many other questions. He also took the time to route all of the pipes in a way to get the best use of space. We received quotes from many other installers before settling on K&J Heating and glad we made the call. We will be returning for future projects and can't say enough praise for the quality work. <br />"

"I called to schedule an oil change on my day off and was accomodated as to day and time.  I arrived with my 4 1/2 yr old grandson and 5 month old granddaughter and waited while the work was done.  The waiting room is clean, and suitable for us to be in while the work was done.  The work was prompt, the fee was as quoted, and the workers professional. <br />"

FAQs for gas piping projects in Portland, ME

Plumbers with proper licensing and credentials install and relocate gas lines. When hiring a professional, verify they have experience with gas systems and all required certifications. Some homeowners choose to work with plumbers specializing in natural gas installations, as they have extensive experience with similar projects and understand the safety requirements.

The timeline for gas line relocation varies based on project complexity, permit processing, and inspection scheduling. The physical labor takes a few hours to one day, depending on the line length. However, the actual installation work represents only part of the overall project timeline. Your contractor should provide a specific timeframe based on your circumstances and local permitting requirements.

Your gas supply must be shut off during the relocation process. This safety measure prevents gas leaks while connections are being modified. Plan for this temporary service interruption by making alternative arrangements for cooking, heating, or other gas-dependent systems in your home. The shut-off generally only lasts for a portion of the work, often a few hours.

Relocating gas lines to connect new appliances is a common reason for this type of project. Whether you're installing a gas stove, fireplace, dryer, or outdoor grill, a professional can determine the best route for extending your existing gas system. The cost will depend on the distance between your current gas line and the new appliance location.

Gas line work is not suitable for DIY projects. Natural gas is highly flammable and potentially lethal if not handled correctly. Gas leaks can be difficult to detect without specialized equipment. Professional plumbers have the proper training, tools, and experience to safely relocate gas lines while ensuring compliance with local building codes and safety standards.
