"To be honest, I chose A-Best because the quote was very reasonable, significantly less than a quote by a competing vendor. Measuring and quote went smooth by a friendly, knowledgeable young lady. Because of covid, installment was delayed by a few months, but that was not the fault of A-Best...and definitely worth the wait. Install was fantastic. 3 guys worked in tandem, like choreography. Within hours, the atmosphere inside my home was transformed by simple, solid, well-engineered windows that provided energy savings and beautiful wider visions. And considering the age of the existing windows, any carpentry adjustments were nominal and seamless. BEST of all, there was nothing to clean up after they left."

"We dropped in to see what Exciting Windows had on display based upon Angie's list reviews. We left our name and number and got a prompt call back to set up a home consultation. I knew what I wanted but both of the installations were pretty tricky -- I had a triple window in my dining area that I wanted white wood blinds and a street view from my bedroom that I wanted half shutters. The session occurred exactly as planned and plenty of time spent to get exactly what we wanted. The design consultation was very well worth it as I would have picked a totatly different "white" but these are gorgeous. I was steered to the best material per application, using vinyl for the shutters. The installation was included for a flat price and the installer spent a great deal of time in our house as the plantation shutter installation was tricky. They turned out great. The installer worked to make me completely satisfied. The over the top was that I had another installer for my living room blinds -- but that service provider did not provide returns for the valences. The valence was open on the  sides and sort of slid around a bit from side to side. Very frustrating. For the cost of the replacement valences only, the consultant contacted the blind manufacturer, worked out the best alternative, obtained our approval and the installer installed new valences with returns. It really looks so much better. That is above and beyond. I can't say how happy we are with Exciting Windows. Highly recommended. <br />"

"The work was of excellent quality. The workers were courteous, cleaned up fairly well at the end of the day and did an excellent job installing the siding. The Quinn brothers checked up with us frequently to ensure everything was proceeding as we expected. We were totally satisfied with the job."

"I purchased a storm door from Lowe's and Dand D Woodworks installed the door. The storm door was a 3 way security door that need to be installed correctly to work properly. Dick Baillargeon from Dand D Woodworks did an excellent job of installing the door and also took the time to show me how to work the door locking system. He was efficient and very easy to work with."

"Like the other three jobs we have had Erik and his crew do, it went very well. We have a second house on the property. It is considered a pool house. We had the bathroom redone, had them add a door from the pool into the bathroom. They tore it out, put it back together with a terra-cotta tile. This job included the laundry room adjacent to the bathroom and the small covered patio that leads to the pool. Great job looked wonderful as expected. Great guys."

"The job went according to plan and looks amazing. I met with LR Higgins Inc. late winter and we discussed the job I needed done. With the pandemic, the windows and doors would take a while to be delivered especially the custom sliding doors for the breezeway. Eric kept me in the loop the entire time. He updated me on a regular basis to let me know when he thought the product would be delivered and a start date. His crew was informative and very clean. All debris was picked up and swept up. I have used LR Higgins in the past and I keep gong back to them. They do a FANTASTIC job!"

"I expected to use GAF shingles and their website included Roof Pros among their list of GAF Master Certified installers. Researching Roof Pros showed that they are accredited by the BBB, have proper licensing and insurance documents, and are members of  a professional organization (National Roofing Contractors Association). An appointment was made and Kevin Law visited to evaluate the job. He was thorough in reviewing the roof structure so as to anticipate potential problems ahead of the actual work. He described how a crew would descend on the house around 7:00 am and would be finished the same day! After taking measurement he estimated  the job's cost. He also invited us to visit a job site that was to begin the following week so as to see how the roofing crew worked. After seeing how smoothly it was going, considering that the price seemed reasonable, and that Roof Pros provides a 10-year warranty, we signed a contract for the job. There was to be no payment until the job was completed, at which point 100% was to be paid. <br /> The work went exactly as expected. The crew arrived at 7:00 am and were done, including a very thorough cleanup, at 2:30. The work flow was extremely smooth and well synchronized. Large sheets were run from the roof to the ground to control the flow of debris so that there was minimal damage to shrubbery. Some rot was found in the small roof above the house's entryway. They went to a local lumber yard, purchased plywood, and sized it to cover the existing wood with the plywood. The only slight downside to the process was my having to lay out lots of plastic sheeting to protect items stored in my attic: there are gaps in the rough boards that make up the roof decking and it was anticipated that bits of the old shingles would find their way down to the attic. <br /> A job very well done and relatively painless since it involved only 1 day of actual work. <br />"

FAQs for new windows service projects in Portland, ME

Yes, bay windows add value to a home. They enhance the property by expanding the interior space and flooding rooms with natural light. Their unique three-panel design creates a stunning focal point that elevates curb appeal and modernizes living areas. This architectural detail increases both functional space and visual appeal, directly contributing to higher home resale value.

Yes, all window types have the potential to become part of a bay window configuration when modified correctly. The transformation involves reconfiguring standard windows into a multi-panel design that features a larger central window flanked by smaller ones. This process requires precise professional planning and custom framing to ensure durability, visual balance, and structural integrity.

Bay windows typically consist of three glass panels extending beyond the home's exterior walls, with a larger center panel flanked by two smaller ones. In contrast, bow windows are composed of four to six equally sized glass panels that create a gentle curve and do not extend as far from the exterior walls.

Bay windows cost more than standard windows because their expansive, multi-panel design requires additional materials and skilled labor. Their construction involves extra glass, specialized frame components that extend outward, and complex operating mechanisms. These technical demands necessitate precise engineering and multiple expert installations, thereby significantly increasing both material and labor expenses.

Bay windows cost three times more than standard double-hung windows because their design requires extra panels, expanded framing, and a more complex installation process. The advanced construction method increases material consumption and demands comprehensive expertise, while specialized window treatments further elevate expenses. This all results in a significant difference in overall project cost.
