Small jobs welcome

"The men were professional and curtious. They installed outside lightning in very cold weather. The paint job was done well. Wish they would have let me know that before finishing that another can of paint would have made a better finish. I would have gone and gotten more. Vacuuming up or asking if i wanted to before they put the furniture back would have been nice as well. "

"Having bad experiences working with other contractors in the past, I was nervous to hire someone else to perform a much needed remodel to my 15 year old bathroom. Thankfully, I’ve come across Kish and she was able to exceed my expectations. She was very thorough throughout the entire process from start to finish and was extremely on point focusing on the details of the finishings I wanted. I received so many compliments from friends and family! I’m looking forward to hiring her to perform my kitchen remodeling next!"

"Since we are local, they were able to work us into their schedule sooner than planned.  A bunch of guys showed up the first day and they did almost the entire thing in one day.  Just a few guys showed up the second day to finish things up.  They broke a stone on our retaining wall when backing out of the driveway and had it replaced within a few days - at no cost or inconvenience to us.  The ground was left clean and our flower beds were undamaged.  Excellent service and very professional. <br />"

"Our sales consultant Rob Culbertson with Pella in McMurray Pa is extremely knowledgeable and professional. Rob is very affable and personable. Both my husband and I enjoyed doing business with Rob. Also, the installers were wonderful. John K and his entire crew were professional, extremely courteous and very hard working. All of the installers were invested in our complete satisfaction with their work. We are now enjoying our windows and patio sliding glass door."

"I am extremely pleased with this job. My house is old , very "crooked" but has a lot of character. B & J Morrison totally updated but kept all the angles intact. It was a very difficult undertaking but the outcome is amazing. Their dry walling is flawless. The installation of the flooring looks great, even looks level on my " not so level" house. The workers were always prompt, professional, and courteous. They kept the dust and mess at a minumn. <br /> <br />I can't say enough of positive comments about B & J Morrison Construction! I have known them for a long time and have always been very happy with their high quality work. I would highly recommend them to anyone considering a small to a major construction or remodeling job. <br />You will definitely be pleased with their expertise and work ethic!"

"As far as their products for roofing they seem great quality. However super overpriced. To the point they can come down 15k+ in their estimate. However not why I give them a horrible review. We wanted a quote for a metal roof- not a FIVE hour meeting and presentation. No indication of this length of time was given when making the appointment. Insisted on both spouses present meaning we had to basically let our kids watch tv the whole time and feed them a bunch of snacks bc I couldn't leave to even make lunch without them stopping their talks. Pushy. Did not need or want a power point presentation comparing their company and prices to others (which by the way they inflated to double what it's costing us). So nope would not use them. In this age of three young kids and little time they were a total waste of a day and would have very much appreciated a shorter meeting and perhaps an email or text vs showing up at our house again the following day with a better offer"

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in Punxsutawney, PA

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
