"I was looking to hire someone to lay down a new gravel drIveway and Absolute was the first to reach out and the best bang for my buck. Kieth and his team stayed focused at the task at hand. They were all very open to any concerns and readily corrected or went with the flow of any changes during the project. Awesome and very pleased with the final product."

"Well we started a year ago just about talking about the project. Matt was very helpful by first listening to our opinions and and making good suggestions at several points during the process. He thought about what we ask and tried very hard to make available samples of materials and adapted to our asks as the process progressed. We had a number of bad weather interruptions (think NOAH) but Matt and crew got back to work when things improved. We are delighted with the arena, and it stood up to the test of heavy rain by draining well so Martin sand and Gravel did the job right. No job is without its challenges, but even months after the job was completed Matt kept his promises and fixed several minor details that I had deferred but he kept reminding me he needed to make right. That means a lot to me. Pictures are from November- through great Freeze! Now all greened up and dry. Thanks MR. Martin."

"Originally, I asked for a scored, colored, concrete slab for my rear patio.  When Chris Roberts? team installed it, they tore out the existing wood deck and discovered concrete under the old wood deck.  They then poured the new concrete over existing concrete, and when complete, the new concrete slab was above the level of the house foundation. This caused water to leak into the family room of my home and to damage the wood siding on the outside wall.  Thus, Chris Roberts had to tear out the whole thing (at their expense).  At that time, they discovered that the old concrete (which was under the old wood deck) was part of the house slab with post-tension cables running through it and back under the house.  Thus, they had only a few choices: <br /> 1) Tear out the old concrete (which was part of the house foundation); 2) Pour concrete on the lower part of the patio (to which the concrete foundation did not extend) and install flagstone over both the new concrete (at the lower end of the patio) plus over the existing foundation slab; 3) Refund my money and walk away from the job.  To Chris? credit, he chose option 2 and installed beautiful flagstone.  He kept telling me how much more expensive flagstone is versus a concrete slab (which is what I paid him to install).  However, he never did anything to pull the water (when it rains) away from the patio.  The first time we had a heavy rain, the patio collected several inches of water and started backing up towards the house (even though the patio flagstone was graded away from the house). <br /> After entering a negative review on Angie?s List, and asking them to intervene, I received a call from Chris.  He volunteered to grade the dirt (where my yard and patio meet) so that water will not collect there, and to install a 9-inch grate at the end of my patio plus underground pipe to funnel the water to the front of my house.  He did this for free in order to maintain a good rating on Angie?s List. <br /> Bottom Line:  Chris demonstrated integrity by making everything right.  I just wish that the work had been done properly the first time. <br />"

"Mike at Hillman Outdoor Living was very professional and easy to work with. The work was done in a timely matter and the finished product was exactly as promised. The stone retaining wall, flagstone patio, outdoor kitchen and pergola turned out perfect. He also stuck to his original quote so there were no surprises to the price. We will definitely be using Hillman Outdoor again in the future! We are very pleased with the work."

"After we purchased a 10-year old residential estate on 3.3 acres, Stenson Landscaping was hired in January 2016 to solve the sever drainage issues, upgrade/repair the irrigation system and renovate almost the entire landscape. After considering incomplete advice and proposals from a professional civil engineer and several landscapers who claimed to be drainage experts, James Doyle, co-partner of Stenson Landscaping, was hired to design and install a drainage system to eliminate standing water around the residence. The effective drainage system encompasses a network of approximately 750 linear feet of French drains emptying into two high-performance sump pumps. Afterwards, standing water from rain and irrigation runoff, which was killing plants and trees, was totally eliminated. The residential irrigation controller was replaced by a smart commercial controller with a flow meter to control 26 zones. James, an expert in commercial irrigation solutions, supervised his crew in repairing zone valves and heads. In addition, he prepared a zone chart and zone map of the system. When sensing low-flow alarms caused by blockages and high-flow alarms caused by broken heads, the smart controller dispatches alarms via email to both the property owner and James. The controller can be controlled locally or remotely from a smart phone or computer. Accessible historical data is also continuously recorded. Existing and new beds were essentially planted with new perennials and evergreen plants. Approximately 50 red cedar trees were planted around the perimeter of the property for a screen. Other trees and large shrubs planted were live oak, redbud, crepe myrtle, Japanese maple and holly. Furthermore, Stenson Landscaping install a beautiful stone paving walk and garden patio, driveway stone borders and plant bed stone borders. In addition, they installed bases for statuary and installed plants and drip systems into pottery. After more than one year, James has proactively replaced dead plants and trees without hesitation under warranty. In addition, Stenson Landscaping professionally maintains the entire property under an annual contract to mow, trim, fertilize, weed and insect spraying, etc."

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Red Oak, TX

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
