"We were very pleased with the work done wrapping our old rotted windows and installing new gutters. Effort was taken to match existing trim and siding. Our only complaint was that we had to wait quite a while for the work to be done, but we are very happy with the finished product."

Door county Glass is family-owned and been in operation in Sturgeon Bay since 1979. The owner, Bob Cregan, hails from Park Ridge Illinois and after working 20 years as a regional sales representative, for an Italian Glass manufacturer (St. Gobain) decided to move to Door County to pursue a way of life that was a little less hectic.\n\nDoor County Glass also serves Industrial companies. For example, we have an exclusive contract with a manufacturer in Pennsylvania where we fabricate all the glass for the cabs of cranes. We also provide interior glass for the custom mega yachts that Palmer Johnson builds.\n\nOther aspects of the business include sales of mirrors and shower enclosures to consumers and contractors. We work closely with Portside Builders, Van's Lumber, Custom Builders and Great Northern Construction. Some of our projects include the installation of frameless mirrors in new and remodeled homes. We also install mirrored panels on walls as well as ceilings. For example, we can cut custom sized mirrors from large stock sheets to fit a variety of applications.\n\nTwo years ago, the showroom was given an extensive remodel, and features samples of glass shower enclosures that can give customers a better feel for what they would look like in their home. The walls are lined with distinctive mirrors by Kentwood, and are available in many shapes and sizes. Some have beveled edging and others are frameless. Others have frames in finishes such as oil-rubbed bronze, black laquer and pewter. But, even if you don't see exactly what you want in our showroom, we can get it for you. While the trend has shifted to 3/8" heavy glass, there is a more cost effect option using 1/4" glass. Hardware is available in many finishes such as polished brass, antique brass, polished copper, satin chrome and brushed nickel. We also have many styles of pattern glass, but the most popular choice is clear. People are finding that after doing an extensive bathroom remodel, they don't want to hide elaborate tile work with obscure glass.\n\nThe next time you have a need for high-quality automotive glass products, brand-name residential and commercial windows, doors, mirrors and hardware, we would appreciate the opportunity to earn your business as a satisfied lifetime customer.

FAQs for door or window screens install or repair projects in Reedsburg, WI

Most off-the-shelf screens come in fixed sizes, ranging from 18 inches by 20 inches to 36 inches by 74 inches, which fit the vast majority of residential windows. If your opening falls outside that range or has a unique shape, you’ll need a custom screen built to the exact measurements. Going custom ensures a secure fit, a solid barrier against bugs, and a clean, finished look.

The decision to repair or replace your screen depends on the extent of the damage. Small holes or tears in otherwise solid mesh can be patched, and a sturdy frame usually doesn’t need to go anywhere. However, once the frame is bent or the mesh is brittle and fraying in several spots, replacement becomes a more sensible option—and often proves to be less costly in the long run. Take a close look at both parts before making a decision.

To rescreen a window, start by prying out the old spline, then lift the torn mesh from the frame. Lay the new screen over the frame, allowing about an inch of excess on all sides, and hold it in place while pressing fresh spline into the groove with a roller. Check that the mesh is taut—many pros rest a small brick on it while they work—then trim the overhang with a utility knife.

Most window screens last for 10 to 12 years. Time, sun, and weather gradually make the mesh brittle, so you’ll start to see sagging, rips, or thinning spots that let bugs get through. Check the screens each season; if the mesh crumbles or the frame warps, it’s time to replace them to keep air flowing and pests outside.

Most pros can swap out a screen in 10 minutes to an hour. A quick pop‑in replacement goes fastest, while fitting new mesh into an existing frame or working on a hard‑to‑reach upper window adds time. Either way, plan for at least a few extra minutes per screen so the installer can verify the fit and ensure the spline is seated correctly.
