"We recently had our basement remodeled by Owens Corning, and the entire experience was outstanding from start to finish. The team was professional, organized, and genuinely great to work with every step of the way. What impressed us most was their commitment to the timeline. Not only did they keep to the schedule they promised, they actually finished earlier than expected—which almost never happens with home projects! Communication was clear throughout the process, and every member of the crew treated our home with care and respect. The final result exceeded our expectations. The craftsmanship, attention to detail, and overall quality of the finished space turned our basement into something far better than we had even hoped for. It truly feels like a completely new part of our home. If you’re considering a basement remodel, we highly recommend Owens Corning. Working with such a professional and reliable team made what could have been a stressful project an enjoyable one!"

Small jobs welcome

"We hired Ocean Break Remodel to finish our small basement (~225 sq ft). Peter and his crew were great to work with and in addition to doing high quality work, they also finished on schedule and within budget. I am very glad we chose to work with them and would highly recommend them."

"Dennis went above and beyond on our basement. Recently bought a house and the former owners did not finish it to code or with permits. Dennis started from scratch and brought it up to code and permitted. Done in record time. Price was amazing. Even dealt with my husbands changes in what he wanted in lighting, paint and ceilings."

"They did an amazing job. It was a full remodel of a shell of a lake side cottage. They did everything from the special environmental permits, demolition of a derelict sunroom. And a full gut of the interior down to the studs. They worked with me on a floor plan. They built a beautiful large deck. Ingrid and her team supervised all of the electrical, insulation, and plumbing through out the cottage. Her team then connected me to the town sewer which needed a six foot ejection pump to reach the road side. The interior is amazing. They did such a great job creating space out of such a small footprint. Subway tiled bath/shower. Heat pump system with the spray foam insulation works super efficiently. Ingrid and David made my lakeside cottage dream a reality. And they did this all with no direct access to the property with vehicles. All the construction debris was moved by trailer and 4x4. Just above and beyond."

"Overall, I was very pleased with their skills, and the quality of their work. The price also seemed to be reasonable, and fair---
in line with other estimates, (though I only honestly looked at one or two others), but liked his personality, and he seemed Fair and honest.
In fact, I was so pleased with the plastering job, that I hired him again to do some repair work on the exterior of the house--in the back. This involved replacing a facachia (spelling?) board because of wood rot, cleaning the gutters, and adding an additional drainage downspout.
And because i was experiencing some water in the unfinished part of the basement, which appeared to be coming from, or in the general area of the bulk head, I had him take a look at the possible source of the problem. After his inspection, he determined that
not only was there some hollowness in the bulk head itself, which might need to be replaced at a later date---cost was a factor for me, so I wanted to put that off....But I either needed to add a cement filling (apron) on the outside of the bulk head, Or fill the bottom (inside) base of the steps leading up to the bulk head with cement. I decided on having them put a dirt apron around the outside
of the bulk head as a quick fix, And pour some cement at the base of the stairs on the inside (leading to the bulkhead) to prevent further, or excessive rain/water damage, particularly a problem at that end of the basement.
After having this done, I have to say my basement, thankfully, has remained Very dry, and has been tested with heavy rainfall on a few occasions since. So, needless to say, I was Very happy with the end results, as one of the sump pumps was also giving me a problem, breaking free of the rod (?) and not pumping the water. Joe also took a quick look at that, tinkered with it a bit, put it back together by tying and clamping it a certain way, then testing it by pouring water over it---And now it is functioning as it should.

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in Swansea, MA

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
