"A tech "Graham" came out for an annual maintenance visit on a reliable 15 year old York Furnace with a 20 year guarantee on the heat exchanger which Blue Flame installed in 2010. He could not explain why he was here, and when I told him "routine annual maintenance" he said, "Let's see what we can find". That was the first sign we had opposite agendas. It went south from there. After lots of loud grinding noises, he supposedly found a shiny jagged gash which he showed me on a scope. I am extremely suspicious he created it himself with a power tool. The end result was the furnace was no longer usable and cost me $8K to have them replace. To add insult to injury that guy ruined my screen door, which won't close anymore. I have ended my 15 year relationship with this company, since I no longer trust them."

"I won't call any other heating or AC experts ever again. Twice now, I've had incomparable experiences. I had another highly reputed company come diagnose my failed furnace and provide an estimate, but AirPros' price for the same part and repair was much more reasonable and furnace repairs are not cheap, so the difference mattered significantly. AirPros also treated me like family. Go with this family business, you will be happy."

"We went with Greenwood because we heard that they would take care of us, even though they were more expensive. We had a great experience with the first walkthrough with a knowledgable expert, but every interaction since has been poor. We had several issues with the installation; they had to come back several times. Five years later, the water pump with the furnace broke and they take care of it, but it costs $900. They take care of us, but continue to be expensive. I highly recommend avoiding this company and finding a business that knows what their doing and where all technicians care about the customer."

"This company relies on AI and is not truly available 24/7. They sent a technician to my home who was unable to fix my issue, yet claimed it had been addressed. I called back immediately, and their AI bot booked me a new appointment that evening. The technician never showed. I called again over the course of the next two days, with no resolution. I received multiples text threads over the course of the two days stating that my concern had been escalated to the "on call manager," who never called. Today I spoke with the company and they said that there is no one in the office over the weekend! Despite my horrible experience, they refused to refund the cost of the "service." Take your business elsewhere!!!"

FAQs for swamp cooler installation and replacement projects in Renton, WA

Swamp coolers are quite energy-efficient, using only 15% to 35% of the electricity that traditional central air conditioning units consume. This can lead to significant savings on your energy bills. However, keep in mind that swamp coolers require water to operate and may not cool your home as effectively in extremely hot or humid conditions. When considering overall efficiency, it is essential to weigh both electricity and water usage, as well as the cooling needs specific to your local climate.

Evaporative coolers only work in dry climates because they cool by moistening the air. If the air is already moist, this will have little to no cooling effect. Central AC is a better choice if you live in a humid climate, such as the Midwest, eastern, or western coastal regions.

To install a swamp cooler on a roof, a local HVAC specialist will first find and cut a spot free of wiring and obstructions. They’ll then install metal bracing, legs, brackets, the ceiling duct register, ductwork, power, and thermostat wires. Once installed, they’ll seal all openings, attach duct connections, and install a thermostat. Before leaving, they’ll run cool water piping to the unit and inspect all the connections.

The cost to repair your swamp cooler ranges from $50 to $600, depending on the issue, whether new parts are needed, and the chosen repair service. Depending on the type of pad your system uses, you will need to change out the pads every one to three years for proper operation. When budgeting for the cost to repair a window unit, expect to pay around $230.

The U.S. Department of Energy states that swamp coolers can cool a single room by five to 15 degrees Fahrenheit. However, this largely depends on the size and installation method of the evaporative cooler. You can only achieve these results in a dry climate, such as the American South, as it’s easier to cool rooms in humid environments with central air.

Swamp cooler water usage varies depending on the size of the unit. Smaller evaporative units may use one gallon per hour, while much larger units could use up to 15 gallons of water per hour. Most homeowners can expect their unit to use between seven and 10 gallons of water per hour of usage.
