"John was an easy-going person to work with. I could tell right away that he knew exactly what he was doing. He made recommendations to do a skim coat and gave it a day to cure. The next day he installed the tile and gave it another day to cure. The thi..."

"Walter’s service was the best I’ve received in a long time. He arrived on time, provided suggestions on how to keep my grass from growing too many weeds and even cleaned up the clippings after himself. It may be something small but it’s the little things that matter. He also laid gravel and mulch for me that day and did such a neat and efficient job of doing so. I would definitely recommend UpNext to others as well as hire the company again."

"We were supposed to inspect our granite and decide how we wanted our countertops layed out. We visited Absolute and were told that the granite was not at their warehouse so we could select how the granite should be cut. We had paid a $500 deposit months before to hold the granite. When informed that the granite was ready to install we were told that we had to find someone to install supports on the bar top before the granite could be installed (10 inch overhang needs support). Absolute provide no assistance with this until we forced the issue. Absolute told us it was our problem - they only install the granite. The installers were fine however they told me that the supports for the bar top were not the preferred supports and the bar countertop had to be installed with shims under the bar top to make it level. This could have been avoided if Absolute also installed the supports for the bartop - they are the granite experts - not me - the homeowner. Installation was OK but the finish of the granite surface has many small holes and defects and in some areas are rough. Research informed me that the granite surface was not finished properly because the surface should be smooth. Overall I was not happy with the service or product from Absolute. I had another granite countertop installed when I lived in another state and the finished product and service was much better."

"It went extremely well. Ray was a professional throughout. He was very careful when dealing with the township to make sure all the paperwork and inspections were lined up properly. It took two days to complete. Ray, Bill, and Matt worked very hard and the end product seems to be perfect. I am very happy with Culligan Concrete & Masonry and hope to use them again in the near future."

"The crew arrived promptly and worked efficiently. The wall is now neat and sturdy. Rebar reinforcement and drainage were installed. The work area was left clean and the extra soil evenly raked out."

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Riverside, NJ

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
