"We had a fantastic experience with Great Lakes Gardening. Drew, the owner, was great to work with — friendly, knowledgeable, and clearly cares a lot about the quality of his work. He took the time to understand what we wanted and made some really helpful suggestions along the way. They built a retaining wall for us and did a full refresh of our garden beds. The wall is solid and looks great — really well done. The plants they brought in were top quality and everything was placed with a lot of care and attention to detail. "Lee initially inspected the flashing during a separate furnace installation. Later, he was easy to contact, and was able to squeeze the job in on short notice before the weather was too cold for it.  He was happy to show me the work up on the roof when he finished it. I can't comment on whether this fixed the problem of the water drips in the bathroom because there hasn't been extreme precipitation since the job was done. But I am happy with the work thus far. I did not rate the quality of the work because I'm not knowledgeable, but I am confident that it was a good job, and I plan to hire Lee for some tuck pointing when the weather allows in springtime.

"A-1 Roofing & Siding did a fine job on my roof. There was concern that the plywood base was spongy but it turned out that it only needed a new sheet or two. While up there, they noticed that the chimney needed some minor repair that they were able to take care of. There was a crew below to clean up as the roofers dropped the old shingles, etc. A new ice/water barrier was installed and new flashing around the chimney. 50 year shingle warranty and 10 year labor warranty was included. There was concern that the dumpster would damage my new concrete driveway (3 mos. old), but there was no damage from that. All in all, the job only took about 2 days to finish. I would definitely hire them again for this kind of job."

"I deal with many contractors as an interior designer. This company did a great job. We had some hiccups with communication in the beginning, but the quality of work done was worth having the patience in the end. They do not cut corners and were very good about explaining the process as it went along to help me make decisions on materials and color choices. Rob was AMAZING as the project lead. They are my "go-to"from now on with any exterior project for me or my clients."

"We worked primarily with Chris who served as both the project manager as well as doing a substantial amount of the work himself. 
I chose Yellow Rose initially because of my interaction with him and his willingness and enthusiasm for our project and criteria.  Our main stipulation was that all original, 1930s era tile and details be kept intact while fixing extensive mold and water damage and replacing fixtures, as well as addressing some poor workmanship that had been done in the past.  What I was most impressed with during the process was Chris's dedication to solving any and all problems and his ability to do so.  There was never any point where I was concerned that the work would not get done or would not get done at the quality level I expected.  The one big hitch was that removing the original shower/tub fixtures was far more time consuming than anticipated (the plumbing was, apparently, also original!), and while this did add time and cost, Chris got it done.  He also spent a substantial amount of time correcting issues with the grouting not being done up to his personal standards - something that, honestly, neither my husband nor I would have ever noticed!
There were a few instances when the timing of the work wasn't ideal, however I have to balance that with all the workers being willing and able to do things like stay late on weekend nights to complete a job that turned out to be more complicated than anticipated.  Another big plus for me was that Chris was really respectful of our home and mindful of our aged, skittish cat - which was a huge relief! 
I feel I should mention that Chris is quite young, but don't let that put you off or concern you.  His professionalism, skill, and dedication shine through during every conversation and interaction - and he's also really entertaining and personable!

"We used Lightning Lawn and Landscaping for our lawn mowing needs last year because our subdivision uses them for its regular lawn care, so I thought it would be a good bet. They weren't terrible, but there are far better companies out there. I wouldn't recommend them for lawn mowing, but I can't speak to their other services. Here were the issues that I had with them:
1) They had no regard for our Invisible Fence flags we had up. They never mentioned them or asked us to remove them, but yet they felt no remorse in running them over and tearing them to shreds. It was awhile before we had found and picked up all of the pieces of shredded plastic and the metal rods which were strewn about (which I considered to be unsafe).
2) There were multiple times I had to call the owner to call his guys back out to our site because they would do the subdivision work, pack up, and leave, without doing our yard (which they do along with our subdivision's maintenance to save trips). The owner was responsive and apologetic, but I think they missed us even more times than I was paying attention to because I was super busy that time of year and I remember asking my husband about the lawn on a few other occasions, but I didn't have time to deal with it. I know for a fact it happened at least 2-3 times (for which they did come back out later that day or the following day after I called), but I suspect the real number is more like 5-6 times. That is really irksome when you consider it is $35 a visit. At least they did come back out to do the work, though, on the times that I caught it and called them about it.
My neighbors used Lawn Guru and they only paid $30 a visit. That extra $5 per visit that I was paying with Lightning Lawn and Landscape adds up over the course of the season, and you would think they would be *less* expensive because they were doing our subdivision and were already in the area, so it costs them less travel time. I also feel that Lawn Guru did a better job on our neighbors' lawn, their lawn had nice lines and looked clean, while ours had a *lot* of grass clippings strewn about in mats across our yard many of the times after they left. It didn't happen every time, but it was noticeable when it did.
3) This might seem petty to others and is *not* the reason I dinged them on grading, but I was baffled at just how bad they botched up my last name. And even though I called them multiple times, let them know my last name multiple times, and paid them with payments that had our last name spelled correctly on them, they sent the bills to a last name that was almost nothing like my real last name. That just added to the perception of ineptitude and ignorance that I was already developing for the company over the course of the season. It was really unfortunate.
Bottom line: The owner is nice but the prices aren't very competitive and the workers are careless. I would not recommend them for mowing services and I am unlikely to try them out for other services in the future..

"Mr. Kogan and Huron Masonry were incredible. I've lived in my home for 12 years now. My chimney not only looked decrepit, but was beginning to be downright dangerous from falling debris. I've got bids from some companies to fix it from door salesmen. Each bid I received was nearly 20% higher than what Huron Masonry bid. When I finally buckled down and decided to get it fixed, Mr. Kogan made the process so simple and comfortable for me. He was easy to speak with on the phone, being extremely open and honest about everything. He was at my house within 24 hours to personally see my problem. After we worked together to come up with the idea that I liked best, it may have only been 48 hours before there was a crew at my home working. His crew was extremely nice, and never stopped working. Each person was personable and a standup individual. It seemed that they were done as soon as they got there!! These guys have successfully proven themselves to me. I will assuredly never go with a company other than them for masonry work.
