"Randy and his small army of tradesman removed only the amount of basement floor needed to correct a drain tile issue that was created by the home builder 15 years ago. After the work was done. Everything was cleaned up, and the job came in as quoted. Randy is a great partner when you need your basement water issue corrected."

"Nate (salesman) took all of the time required to answer our questions and develop a plan to deal with the high water table issues. The installation crew communicated with us throughout the installation of the interior drainage system and sump pumps and Dave (Service Tech) went above and beyond to finish the triple safe sump system installation and tweak other elements of the initial installation. All worked to leave the basement as clean as this process could allow."

"Chad and Merilee came out to look at some water accumulation issues we were having in our yard. They were extremely helpful and knowledgeable on the potential issues, and helped us determine what the cause may be. It turns out that it is not related to rain drainage issues, but we will certainly keep them in mind if we need that type is service in the future."

"Standard Water installed a full-perimeter drain tile system in my home. This work included the removal of an existing drain tile system (original system only covered a portion of the house’s perimeter) and the need to tunnel under an existing tiled shower stall as one complicated feature of the project. Standard Water provided excellent service in answering all of the questions that I had before the work started and as the work was in progress. The company was very diligent in keeping the house clean (removed debris through a basement window) and thoroughly cleaned up once they were completely done with the project. On the day of the installation, the foreman noticed that the previously planned location of the discharge pipe was to be located in an area where discharged water would have covered the main walkway that leads to the front door. The foreman made a recommendation to re-route the discharge pipe to another location, far from where people enter and exit the house. I was very impressed with this as the company was looking after my best interest in this regard even through the alternative location was not as easy for them to complete as sticking with the original plan for the discharge pipe. On the second day of the project, some damage occurred inside the house were materials were being loaded/removed through a basement window. Standard Water came out immediately to inspect the damage, took ownership of the problem and promptly resolved the issue to my full satisfaction. I would recommend Standard Water to anyone seeking the installation of a drain tile system. The professionalism of its people, the quality of its work and its materials are superior to anyone else in the market."

"We called Diversified Water to begin our project in October. We wanted a specific window, that Jack ordered through a local hardware store. They arrived to do the work November 26th, due to delays in the window order. I inspected the window before they were ready to install it and noticed it was the incorrect window. Jack reordered the window at the hardware store's expense, due to their error. The remainder of the work was complete January 23. The plastic window well cover was delivered February 2nd. The photo we were shown of the window well appears white in color and the well installed is a tan color. This was not a quick project, due to the hardware store and window manufacturer. Diversified Water completed the project as they stated and for the cost quoted. We do not have any other windows needing egress windows."

"I noticed a leak in the basement late on a Sunday night. I did my own efforts to stop the leak and trouble shoot the general location to a pipe running to the 2nd floor. Not something I wanted to tackle on my own. I called Monday morning, described the issue, and waited for a call back. Someone returned my call shortly thereafter and asked what my availability was and the would check to see who was available and when. I did indicate that this was not an emergency, but fixing it sooner than later was desired. A couple hours later, someone called and said they could be at my place in about 15mins. I was able to meet them. They were prompt and friendly. They assessed the situation with me and presented a plan. Give that the pipe was in a wall and unknown location, they began selective demo, but smartly. We ended up with two modest openings in the ceiling and wall and located the leak on the first try. This was good, because I had expected to take down much more of the wall. Leak identified, they proceeded to remove the offending piece of pipe and install a new run (pex) from the basement to the 2nd floor. They cleaned up everything and were very efficient with their time and materials. Now, I just need to patch the plaster walls and ceilings. Since the water was off and they were here, I had them replace a stuck house side main valve. The cost of this is included in the amount below and is about 20% of the total cost. The remainder was for the leaky pipe replacement."

FAQs for basement drainage channels installation projects in Savage, MN

Expect a well-built French drain to last 30 to 40 years. By channeling both surface- and ground-water away from your foundation, the system relieves hydrostatic pressure and helps prevent costly structural damage. Choose a pipe with a quality cloth filter to keep sediment out and extend the drain’s life. A quick annual inspection and routine cleanouts will keep water flowing freely, ensuring the system continues to protect your home for years to come.

Most French drains sit two feet below grade, but depth ultimately depends on the problem you’re solving. For puddling rainwater or snowmelt, a shallow curtain drain at lawn level often does the trick. To handle rising groundwater, pros dig deeper, down to the footing, and run the pipe beneath the basement slab. A drainage contractor will determine the optimal depth for your specific soil conditions and water issues.

A properly installed interior French drain captures water at the slab, channels it to a sump pit, and directs it safely outside, preventing basement floods before they occur. Because the pipe sits just under the floor edge, a plumber can reach it easily for cleaning or repairs. Pairing the drain with a reliable sump pump gives you the best long-term protection.

Hire a contractor who installs drainage systems every day—typically a foundation specialist, drainage contractor, experienced landscaper, or plumber with waterproofing experience. These pros understand slope, soil, and local codes, and they have the equipment to trench safely around utilities. Ask for references and photos of recent jobs to be sure they can design a system that keeps water off your foundation for decades.

Once the drain is in, patch the yard by reseeding bare spots or replacing plants the crew removed. Inside, look for ways to add value—finishing the basement or upgrading interior waterproofing while the space is open often costs less now than later. Schedule a quick annual checkup to flush sediment and confirm the pipe and sump pump are clear. Consistent maintenance ensures the drain functions properly and protects your investment.

Most policies don’t cover the cost of repairing a French drain itself, but they may provide coverage for water damage if the system fails. Coverage varies by insurer, so be sure to read the fine print or contact your agent before any issues arise. If you live in a high-risk flood zone, consider a separate flood policy to close the gap. Knowing your coverage in advance helps you budget for repairs and avoid unexpected costs.
