"NextDay Inspect did a great job with my new construction home inspection. Being that the builder doesn't allow the homeowner to be the pre-settlement inspection (weirdest thing ever) I really depended on Michael from NextDay Inspect to be my eyes for the inspection. He was able to provide a detailed report with photos and suggestions. NextDay Inspect was also able to conduct a radon test on the same day after already completing the inspection. Everyone I spoke with at NextDay Inspect was very polite and easy to work with."

"I am in the process of house hunting and I have had Robert with RC Air & Mold Solutions conduct mold inspection and testing on two properties. Since I was exposed to toxic mold at my previous residence, Robert's knowledge and expertise were needed and appreciated. He fully explained his process, was prompt in completing his inspection, and followed up with both verbal and written reports. He was pleasant to work with and patiently addressed all questions. I highly recommend RC Air & Mold Solutions."

"This is our second time hiring a home inspector for a single family house purchase, so we already have some idea of what to expect and what to look for. Amazingly, David still impressed us with his thoroughness and professionalism, and we learned a lot from him. He is very observing, knowledgeable, well-organized and patient with our questions. <br /> He checked safety related issues very carefully, such as outlet grounding and garage door safety protections. When testing kitchen appliances, -- which took a while to check whether everything functioned properly, -- he also spend time explaining some fancy features that we are not familiar with. He is so knowledgeable of electricity and plumbing work that he was able to point out that certain electricity job was done recently and that the house was re-plumbed in the past. While discussing with us what he found, he was very explicit about how serious the issues were, e.g., immediate attention, or sth that can wait and be grouped together with other minor repairs.  <br /> We definitely recommend his service, although the service charge is above the average (that's why the rating for 'price' is 'B'). The service quality is surely above the average, too. Thus for us the money is well worth it, especially considering how big a purchase we are making. <br />"

"The sellers of our house contracted with B-dry to waterproof the celler. Weeks after we moved in, we discovered a "bloom" near the edges of the new cement. We contacted B-dry to discuss this and it took almost a week to get a call back. I suggested it might be efflourescence but the service manager insisted it was highly unlikely. Rather it was probably mold which is not covered under the B-dry warranty. We had the basement tested for mold and the results came back as normal. Follow up calls to B-dry went unanswered. Finally, I scrubbed the concrete with muriatic acid and the "bloom" disappeared. It turned out that their waterproofing service was fine but the customer service was far less than adequate. The warranty is transerrable and hopefully this won't be the case if I need them in the future. <br />"

FAQs for radon gas testing projects in Sharpsburg, MD

Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the U.S. The gas seeps through cracks in foundations and collects in basements and other low areas. Once you breathe it in, radioactive particles lodge in lung tissue and do long-term damage. Because you can’t see or smell radon, the EPA recommends testing your home every two years—and after major renovations—to keep your family safe.

Yes—every home should be tested. The EPA advises doing it at least every two years and any time you remodel, buy, or sell. On average, one in 15 houses nationwide sits above the recommended limit, and the only way to know where yours stands is a formal test. The equipment simply measures gas levels and won’t change your indoor environment, so the process is completely harmless.

Certified radon professionals—often home inspectors or dedicated radon mitigation contractors—handle testing. These radon testing professionals follow EPA protocols and use calibrated instruments to check levels throughout your house. Hiring a certified radon specialist means results you can trust for real estate deals, insurance requirements, and, most importantly, your family’s health.

Inspectors specialize in measuring radon gas levels, while licensed mitigation contractors design and install the systems that remove it. If your test comes back high, your inspector can point you to a qualified mitigation pro who will size and install the right fan, piping, or other equipment to bring levels down.

No—standard home air purifiers don’t touch radon. They’re built to trap dust and pollen, not radioactive gas. If testing shows high levels, you’ll need a dedicated mitigation system that vents the gas from beneath your home to the outdoors. Relying on a room purifier alone won’t keep your indoor air safe.

Opening a few windows in your home might dilute radon for a short time, but the gas seeps back in as soon as they’re closed. For a lasting fix, you’ll need a professional mitigation system—often a sub-slab depressurization fan—that pulls radon from beneath the foundation and safely vents it outside.
