Ham, the salesman, walked us clearly through everything that was involved and gave a list of addresses in the neighborhood whose windows they had done, giving guidance on what to tell the Historic District and even communicating directly with them in advance of my permit application. All in all you may be able to find someone who can do it for a couple hundred less, but it is well worth it to know you're in good hands. Total job was four double-hung Marvin windows, including a full gut of one, and new interior trim: $7600 total, $1600 of which was for labor."

"The first thing that I would say is that if you live in a house from the 80s (or earlier) with the original windows, then replacing your windows will totally change your quality of life. It won't be cheap, but it will be worth it. We have one small bedroom setup as a nursery for our unborn baby and it has two double-hung windows: one facing East, and one facing South. Before getting the windows replaced, where I always had the blinds pulled down and a curtain covering the window, I could practically guarantee that I would be sweating after being in that room for more than two minutes; now it is one of the most comfortable rooms in the house and I have not even put the blinds or curtains back up.
