"I pay a monthly fee to CHW for insurance against equipment failure. Over a month ago CHW sent a repair technician to fix both of my garage doors, the technician made an adjustment on one door and chanced the opener on the other. A week or so ago the second door failed to open. Yes, my door opener is old, but the Warrantee says, if it can’t be fixed it will be replaced. CHW paid the tech $100 and said the rest $200 is on me. Please tell me why I should stay with CHW if I have to pay 2/3rds of the cost to replace the door opener? On a separate issue: Granted I accepted CHW’s offer of a Lowe’s card to replace my dishwasher, because I was unaware of how much dishwashers sell for, it cost me an additional 300. Again, please give me a reason for staying with CHW"

"My car was trapped in my garage as the opener had failed to work. Ernie who returned my call within a minute, told me what to look for and said he had someone in the area that would be at my house soon (this was Saturday of Easter weekend. This is no joke. They pulled into my driveway 2 minutes later. The fire department can't get to my house that quickly. I was amazed, not only at how quickly they arrived but how they quickly fixed the multiple problems with my door and opener, including placing the double sized door back on the tracks, replacing the door springs which had broken, testing the door and correcting the adjustment so the door would close all the way and open without hitting the motor section of the opener, a problem I have had for some time. The entire job took less than 15 minutes, but was all done in a professional manner with everything they did being explained to me so I could know what to look for if the door opener, 16 years old, started showing problems. Price...I don't know how they did it but they charged me less than the cost of the springs alone. Faster than a speeding fire truck, more knowledge of their job than a candidate for Jeopardy, friendlier than some pastors I know ( I am a pastor), and prices that would make Walmart's prices look extravagant. And they do other types of work, like gutters, roofing and a list of things they can do that is longer than the IRS tax code. Happy with them...if I could I would adopt them."

FAQs for garage door opener repair or adjustment projects in Slater, SC

Garage door costs range somewhat broadly, depending on the type you choose. However, you’ll also need to factor in labor costs, which vary from state to state and between pros.

A chain driven operator costs between $150 - $250. For a belt driven operator it is usually $160 - $450. A screw-driven operator is between $250-$500.

To keep garage door opener repair costs down, you should check that the whole apparatus is working normally on a regular basis. This means making sure that the tracks of your door are greased and fully operational, and that the door itself is in good condition.

Installing a new garage door opener runs from $250 to $500 at least. If your repair costs are close in cost to that range or if your garage door is 10 to 15 years old, you should probably replace it instead of repair.

However, it’s a better idea to fix your garage door opener if it’s less than eight years old or if repair costs are less than replacing.

Garage door openers usually last between 10 and 15 years. However, several factors contribute to how long your garage door opener can last. If you schedule regular inspections and practice proper care, you can maximize your garage door opener’s lifespan, saving money in the long run. As a general rule, practice the same care for your garage door opener as you would the door itself.

These tell-tale signs indicate your garage door is going bad, including:

  • Not closing or opening at all

  • The door reversing when you try to open and/or close it

  • Inconsistent opening and closing; more noise than usual (grinding, scraping, or banging)

  • Sticking or stalling when you try to open or close it

If you experience one or more of these signs, it’s time to call a professional garage door repair service.
