"It went very well. James Musarra is extremely easy to work with. He asked all the right questions and listened to my concerns. He came out to view the basement within 2 days and had a proposal for me within 2 days after. We were scheduled within 10 days and the work was done in a day with a quick visit from his electrician on another day to hardwire the fan. No mess, no fuss. There was no delay in my basement sheetrock project, as they were able to work on the other side of the wall where the fan went. The fan duct has to go above the roofline of my home and the placement that they chose was very unobtrusive. All in all it was a smooth, professional job. James always answered my calls or returned them the same day. As part of his service he includes a radon re-test to assess the effectiveness of the mitigation. I am happy to say the "after" radon level was 1.3 pCi/L."

"I had a great experience with Joe , getting a co-op unit inspected. His price was very reasonable and he was very accommodating when unexpected obstacles occurred on the day of the inspection. He was very thorough and knowledgeable. I love that he explained everything at the inspection, which was very helpful. Everything was also written out in a detailed report that he sent very promptly. We ended up not purchasing the unit. What really helped us with this difficult decision is Joe's leveled and unbiased relaying of what he found at the inspection. He didn't exaggerate any flaws for example. At the end of the day we feel like we dodged a bullet after the inspection and will definitely be hiring Joe again once we find a home to purchase. Highly recommend him."

"Olivier was terrific. He was incredibly thorough and left no detail out of his inspection or his report. He took the time necessary to inspect all elements of the inside and outside of the home, he was patient in explaining what he found, and he was able to put all his comments within a helpful perspective. I would recommend him 100% and would use him again without hesitation."

"The rep came out and reviewed the areas of concern.  He gave me an estimate on the spot. The next day I decided to go with JBH and the project was scheduled for the following week.  The workers arrived within the scheduled time period and they were very pleasant to work with. They were responsive, efficient and neat. The job was completed in no time. <br />"

"<strong>joe showed up on time.   he inspected the grounds first, then the separate two car garage,  then the home.   from the top floor down to the basement.     he took about four hours to complete his inspection.  this man did not miss a beat.   we decided not to purchase the house because  of all the work it would cost to make this home livable.   he was worth every bit of money to find out about the things wrong with this house.  the inspection included things people would never expect to be found.  from possible oil tanks in the ground that would have to be removed to mold .  he did random tests.  this man is certified in this field .  we were very happy to know things about the property we would of missed.  he gives you a detailed report .   i would use him again.</strong> <br />"

"Andy was phenomenal - he walked us through the entire house inch by inch and left no stone unturned. He tested everything there was to test (doors, outlets, appliances, windows, water pressure, and more), and struck a perfect balance of efficiency while also talking through everything he was doing. Throughout the process, Andy was incredibly patient and clear in explaining everything and I learned so much about both homeownership and the house itself. After the inspection, Andy's report documented everything we went through clearly and in detail, and provided solutions to items that would need repair or replacement in the future. Would definitely recommend Andy, especially for a first time homebuyer!"

FAQs for radon gas testing projects in Sloatsburg, NY

Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the U.S. The gas seeps through cracks in foundations and collects in basements and other low areas. Once you breathe it in, radioactive particles lodge in lung tissue and do long-term damage. Because you can’t see or smell radon, the EPA recommends testing your home every two years—and after major renovations—to keep your family safe.

Yes—every home should be tested. The EPA advises doing it at least every two years and any time you remodel, buy, or sell. On average, one in 15 houses nationwide sits above the recommended limit, and the only way to know where yours stands is a formal test. The equipment simply measures gas levels and won’t change your indoor environment, so the process is completely harmless.

Certified radon professionals—often home inspectors or dedicated radon mitigation contractors—handle testing. These radon testing professionals follow EPA protocols and use calibrated instruments to check levels throughout your house. Hiring a certified radon specialist means results you can trust for real estate deals, insurance requirements, and, most importantly, your family’s health.

Inspectors specialize in measuring radon gas levels, while licensed mitigation contractors design and install the systems that remove it. If your test comes back high, your inspector can point you to a qualified mitigation pro who will size and install the right fan, piping, or other equipment to bring levels down.

No—standard home air purifiers don’t touch radon. They’re built to trap dust and pollen, not radioactive gas. If testing shows high levels, you’ll need a dedicated mitigation system that vents the gas from beneath your home to the outdoors. Relying on a room purifier alone won’t keep your indoor air safe.

Opening a few windows in your home might dilute radon for a short time, but the gas seeps back in as soon as they’re closed. For a lasting fix, you’ll need a professional mitigation system—often a sub-slab depressurization fan—that pulls radon from beneath the foundation and safely vents it outside.
