However, the color of the mortar used differed from that in the rest of the brickwork, so at present it stands out. Sixpenny said to wait a period and then re-evaluate whether any change should be made. I would rate this as an "A" but for the color difference in the mortar that was not expected. The chimney cap work was done well."

"<p>Fairfax Chimney and Fence installed the original fence that surrounds my end-unit townhouse over a decade ago.  They had been chosen originally by a rental agent, but I decided to call them -- as well as a few other providers -- for a quote for repairs.</p> <p>Hands down, Fairfax Chimney and Fence was the most responsive.  John, the owner, visited my property within 24-48 hours of my original call, whereas I am still awaiting a call back from one of the other service providers I contacted.</p> <p>I didn't accept John's first quote, which suggested repairs a little more ambitious (and expensive) than I was willing to undertake at the time.  (Now that I'm on a fixed income in retirement, I have to be a little more careful.)  I explained my predicament, and John came up with a quote that was a little over half of the original for a smaller project.  I accepted, and a few days later, two workmen came out to do the necessary repairs.</p> <p>Not only did Fairfax Chimney and Fence replace all the vertical and horizontal fence boards we had talked about, the workmen also used long wood screws to nail down a deck board that was beginning to warp (not a part of the original quote) and to make some minor repairs on the fence gate when they noticed a problem.  Again, this was not a part of the original quote.  The workmen were efficient and polite, and they cleaned up after themselves.  </p> <p>I called John to tell him I was pleased with the project and to ask an additional favor -- whether I could delay the payment by a few days until I got a new credit card so that I could get mileage points by charging this job to the new card.  John said he had been in a similar situation a few times, and he agreed to the short delay. Everything has now been paid and I just need to stain the new boards (once they weather sufficiently) to have the entire fence look practically brand new.  </p> <p>Fairfax Chimney and Fence did a great job, and I would have no hesitation is using them again or recommending them to others.</p> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <p><br /></p> <br />"

"Excellent service. Chimney inspection not only showed a safe and intact chimney and vent, it also showed the chimney was not in need of cleaning even though it had been several years since last cleaned. I love it when businesses are honest enough to tell you when you don't need a service."

"The company came out within a few days of my call. Mark T inspected and cleaned the chimney (which wasn't that dirty, as it turned out), and took pictures of the metal stack and the exterior of the fireplace stack. They recommended replacing the 4 refractory panels for approximately $1800. They pointed out warping on the metal stack, which he said might not be an immediate problem but would need to be addressed at some point as it would just continue to get worse. He also said that the chase cover at the top, exterior of the fireplace stack should be replaced. I got a second and third opinion. Both those providers said that the refractory panels are cosmetic only since the entire firebox is metal, and that the price would probably be about $400, not $1800. They also looked at the photos provided by Complete Chimney, and said that the 'warping' that Mark T pointed out was not warping...just normal coloration of the stack and not an issue. They said the chase cover was rusting, but not falling apart and was not any kind of safety hazard. while this company did the initial cleaning I requested, I feel like they were trying to push me to see problems where none existed in the hope that I would have them install a new gas fireplace."

"Carlos did an amazing job in fixing our three exhaust pipes going through the roof. They were leaking water around them and now the leaks are gone. Carlos put new upgraded storm caps on them that will keep blowing rain out of them and he put tar over the flashings to seal them. Very professional and he was extremely knowledgeable. Highly recommend for any exhaust flue or chimney work!!"

"Prouty did a great job on the chimney liners and ultimately the chimney cap repair. I rated them a C on responsiveness and professionalism specifically for an issue related to finishing the chimney cap in April when the weather conditions allowed for the repair. We financed the project over a six month period. I had requested that they provide pictures of the finished work including the chimney cap. Other companies we have used in the past provide before and after pictures. However, we were told that because they had already completed the chimney cap repair, they would not return to take pictures. It wasn't until we withheld the final payment that they agreed to return and provide pictures; only to find out that the work had not been completed. They were apologetic about the error in the paperwork, but I can't help thinking if we had not withheld the final payment, we would have been unaware that the repair had not been completed. I believe I would hire them again, but would have to make sure to verify the completed work."
