"Professional, explained everything he was doing, how this process worked, testing for asbestos. When he got report, before sending it, he called me to tell me the result. Told me what I needed to know to finish this project in my house with appropriate workers."

"Competitive pricing; high quality work; timely service, friendly service, and outstanding warranty all describe this work done by Professional Inspection Service. They came back multiple times until all aspects of the radon mitigation were done to my satisfaction. Recent radon readings average below 1.0, well below the recommended 2 pCi/L. I could not be happier with the work they did."

"I had some demo that needed to be done in my basement. Zach and his crew did an amazing job. Cleaned up everything and I was very pleased with their work. Showed up when he said he would and got the job done in timely manner."

"After several past experiences with "professionals" who didn't even bother to show up, it was a breath of fresh air to work with Advanced Water Products & Services (part of Environmental Technical Group). Rick Conzone came when he said he would, tested my water, gave me a written estimate - while he was here, he even changed a water filter that no one else had been able to get loose. Because of my schedule, I couldn't have the actual installation done for a month or so, but the two guys came exactly when scheduled, worked all day, and left the basement area neater than they found it. On top of that, they provided certificates of capital improvement - didn't try to charge me sales tax for the job (I've found that many, many contractors will try to do this.) I would definitely hire them again and recommend them to anyone who needs similar work done. I had a water softener and sulfur removal system and related plumbing installed as well as a new whole-house filter and a hard-water tap for my outside hose spigot."

"We recently hired Patrick Sullivan after contacting another company for mold testing. He was very professional and overall nice guy. The other company we had contacted wanted to overkill on tests we did not need. We are currently in pending process of the sale of our home, which is why a mold test was needed. Upon home inspection, possible mold was found. The buyer wanted it tested and contacted Patrick to make sure he approved of him as well. Last but not least , Patrick went through the areas of house that were possible mold, spent time giving plenty of info. and was very helpful. Reasonable prices, knowledgeable, and professional."

FAQs for asbestos testing projects in Syracuse, NY

Asbestos appears as long, thin, or curled mineral fibers that are not visible to the naked eye under normal conditions. Homes constructed before 1989 are more likely to contain this material, so a professional inspection is essential. Because asbestos identification requires specialized techniques, having a certified inspector assess your property is the safest way to confirm its presence and protect your family’s health.

Free asbestos testing services do not exist. You can purchase testing kits online for $30 per unit, and these kits include lab fees, return shipping, consultation, sampling media, and the final results. The results from a kit are less detailed and accurate than those provided by a certified asbestos testing professional. Since collecting a sample exposes you to harmful fibers, hiring a professional is essential to ensure safety and accurate testing.

Receiving asbestos test results takes one to seven days, but different labs offer varying turnaround times. When expedited processing is arranged, the laboratory completes analysis within 24 hours; standard processing requires up to two weeks. Hiring a certified professional ensures that all samples are collected correctly and results are provided without delay, safeguarding your home throughout the process.

Home insurance doesn't often cover asbestos testing and removal. Many policies have a clause called a "pollution exclusion," which means they do not cover indoor pollutants like asbestos. However, your insurance company might cover something like asbestos siding removal costs if it is released due to things beyond your control, such as storm damage.

If a DIY project or accident in your home releases harmful fibers, you must pay for the test and removal.

Yes, you can legally inspect and remove asbestos in your house as long as it's a single-family home and not a multi-family unit. However, the EPA strongly recommends hiring an asbestos abatement pro since testing can be dangerous.

Pros have all the right tools and safety equipment, and you risk breathing in the fibers by taking samples yourself. They also know how to collect samples and safely dispose of materials properly.

Asbestos encapsulation is a process that seals asbestos-containing materials with a protective barrier to prevent the release of harmful fibers. It serves as an alternative to complete removal when full abatement is not necessary. Encapsulation costs between $2 and $6 per square foot, offering a cost-effective option that contains asbestos safely when applied by a certified professional.
