"The two men arrived promptly and began working immediately. They worked 6-1/2 hours taking just a 30 minute lunch break and completed the building. We signed up at the Home and Garden Show and the company stayed in touch during the winter months. Since we decided to have a concrete pad poured we told them we would call when it was completed. We called them on Thursday and they came the following Monday. Since we had the concrete pad poured some work was not necessary and our price was reduced. We highly recommend this company they did a fantastic professional job. <br />"

"We searched for the right company to build our new He Shed / She Shed earlier this year. When we found Alpine Structures and discussed our needs with them we knew that we found the right team to work with. All aspects of the project went incredibly smoothly and we could not be more pleased with the results. The crew that built the shed was efficient, professional and friendly. Money well spent and I now have neighbors, friends and co workers with Shed envy. Thank you for a job well done."

"Duane and Mike at Shannonwood are very professional. They gave us good advice throughout the whole process. Our work was done as fall was turning to winter and they regularly kept us informed about the process. The subcontractors they worked with are also all quite professional and reliable. Watching Mark's Demolition carefully disassemble and remove the old garage piece-by-piece was a thing of beauty."

"Excellent!.... Great.... Fabulous!. I am very happy that I chose Vincent Homes for the major remodeling work to my house. The garage came out great; the City of Euclid building inspector commented on how nice the cement pad was finished, and even took pictures of it. The room addition came out better than I expected. I am very happy with all the work that Mr. Marcellino and his craftsman did. Mr. Marcellino was always available, to stop by after I got home from work, to go over what was completed that day, as well as what he would do the next day. His timeline for the work was accurate, and every portion of the job was completed on time. Mr. Marcellino was able to work with the ideas that I had. Other contractors that I had interviewed just said no to some of my ideas, but Mr Marcellino did a great job turning my ideas into reality. I plan on remodeling my basement, and will call Vincent Homes again. Thank you, again...Maria <br />"

"Planned on (1) adding a ceiling fan to the living room where there wasn't any before. Wire two switches separate for dimmer and fan next to an existing switch. (2) Fix a pedestal sink in Master Bath which was not installed properly by the previous owner. (3) Add a new electrical outlet to the kitchen above an existing inaccessible outlet behind a counter. (4) Move an existing light fixture in main bath up one electrical box distance so it doesn't get hit by a cabinet door when the door is opened. (5) Mount a fluorescent light fixture in garage. (6) Weather strip two Metal doors, front and indoor garage. (7) Add a power outlet and switch to a coat closet for a new light fixture. (8) Add end cap to existing counter top. (9) Redo kitchen sink sprayer hose, but turned out a new faucet was needed, so they installed the new one. (10) Installed a new dryer vent. (11) Add outdoor vent to oven hood. Outcome, in order: I actually had all the materials needed except some minor hardware. They covered everything and despite the volume of cleanup, it was in great shape after they were done. Pictures are included. (1) Ceiling fan went flawless except for some minor chipping by new electrical boxes. They fixed on the second trip to reinstall pedestal sink. (2) Pedestal sink was a wonderful job, nice and secure now. It did take two trips as the wall repair to properly mount the sink needed time to dry. I also got the chance to paint BEHIND the sink while it wasn't there. (3) Original electrical outlet in kitchen had a loose wire so the two outlets in the dining room went dead. They returned, fixed in 10 minutes. (4) Fixture perfectly mounted. Although they could have smoothed out the new "mud" a bit more so sanding wouldn't be needed as bad. (5) Mounted with two screws in 5 minutes on second day. I already had it wired. (6) The magnetic weatherstripping was postponed to better weather. Need to convert from Magnetic stapled style to the new kerf style mounting because original style of magnetic replacements are now obsolete. (7) Installed perfectly, but light switch on other side of wall which was source of power was reinstalled so off was up. (I fixed.) (8) End cap installation postponed to next time they are here for weatherstrip and oven hood vent. (9) Kitchen sink now fully functional, new under-sink valves were needed also. All fixed. (10) Dryer vent perfectly installed where needed. (11) Oven hood vent postponed to better weather. All postponed jobs will be done on the next visit when weather breaks. These jobs were performed in mid-winter. Ann was a little hard to get a hold of at first, but it improved greatly as time went on. I found that email worked out better for our particular conversations. Pictures were taken during first visit. Do I recommend? Yes, they are Highly Recommended."

FAQs for garage building service projects in Tallmadge, OH

A well‑constructed, properly permitted detached garage adds between $12,000 and $36,000 to a home’s resale value. Buyers appreciate the secure parking, extra storage, and flexible workspace, so appraisers often bump the property’s value accordingly. The exact return depends on the garage’s size, finishes, and how well it matches the main house, but most homeowners see a strong ROI when the build meets local codes and passes inspection.

Yes—once it meets local building codes and you secure the proper permits, a detached garage can be converted into living space. Finishing the interior, adding climate control, and ensuring safe egress effectively increase your usable square footage, though it may not always count toward the official listing. Skipping permits can trigger fines and even force you to undo the work, so always clear plans with your city first.

Most homeowners policies cover a detached garage under the “other structures” provision, but coverage limits vary. Review your declarations page and ask your agent how much protection you have for separate structures. If the limit is lower than the garage’s replacement cost, you can raise it for a modest premium. Confirming the details now prevents headaches if you ever need to file a claim.
