"My home needed a new 400-foot driveway cut and installed in a hurry. Josh was there just a day after I called, with an estimate on the spot. 4 days later, it was done! He even beat the rain! Josh was very easy to work with, had a price that fit into my budget, and provided excellent results. Thanks Josh!"

"Mark and company did an excellent job of chip sealing our existing and new parking lot of over 28,000 Sq ft for our church. The quote they gave us was superb and their workmanship was exceptional, very prompt and honest. They went above and beyond on their commitment and even donated half load of leftover gravel and used it to fill a ditch near the building. I would strongly recommend their company to anyone who is looking for paving work. Thank you Mark and team for a job well done."

"Outdoor designs did an amazing job as I had to prepare much of my land from scratch. From installations of large stones for a retention wall, leveling and excavation, preparing fields for wild flower planting, building my driveway and parking spaces, creating a RV pad, and clearing a RV space near my river front, all of their work has been top notch and budget friendly."

"I had Kolton create a walkway, planter bed, and concrete slab for a hot tube. Flagstone walkway had a tricky grade and he made it perfect. My planter bed drains perfect after heavy rains. The concrete slab for my hot tub was perfectly level. Thank you for easing my worries and creating a beautiful area for my family to enjoy. I highly recommend this team."

Small jobs welcome

"Bruce and his dad did an excellent job. Was prompt on the job and got it completed on time. The job had its challenges with a few of the rocks out in Burnet. Anyone knowing about dolomite can understand. Drive looks good. Will be having them back to install more after house and barn is built."

"Very nice person to work with and was relatively punctual and kept in communication with us when necessary. However, he didn't listen well to what we wanted in terms of the smaller plantings. My wife knows plants much better than this guy but he showed up with a bunch of plants even though we said we would do that part ourselves. He had his helper plant them although we had to replant some of them because they weren't done at the correct height or some were not in the correct light environment. We have replaced a couple of the plants as they weren't deer-proof as advertised. We have no experience with deer but are learning fast. The low limestone wall he installed is beautiful and they did a good job there as well as the walkway and small patio. I would say he's very good at design and the hardscape but doesn't know his plants well which is a drawback for a landscaper. The Monterey Oak was done well, I do have to admit. That was a real job to plant. If you need a lot of planting done, you'd better know what you want ahead of time. For the hardscape and trees, no complaints.

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Taylor, TX

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
