"THOM HARTMAN of Hartman Brick & Stone is the BEST!! He provided a great deal of information on: Cost, products (including area providers), time, best arrangements, what needed to be done before, during and after work was completed and lots and lots of patience for design and installation! We've had a few previous bad experiences with contractors, but having THOM HARTMAN do our patio project has been a wonderful experience! I will most definitely ask THOM to help with all our future improvements!!!!!"

"Marsha and her team did OUTSTANDING work at my house. The job was flawless from start to finish. Marsha is a dream to work with, has a fantastic personality, she really knows her stuff and loves what she does. Contacting her and getting responses--super easy. The pavers were ordered and came in with zero drama. The team got in, got the job done and were gone in no time at all. The crew works well together, all the guys are so nice, everyone is happy (which, to me, says a lot!) and they really seem like they love what they do. They work smart, clean, left ZERO mess. I can only say good things. I am BEYOND HAPPY with their work. That being said, I am a very "particular" person, I like what I like THE WAY that I like it and Marsha delivered. I absolutely LOVE my new patio and driveway, and I highly recommend Exotic Pavers!"

"Tara and her husband do great work.  They are very precise and make sure everything is perfect.  The design is very nice and takes advantage of the existing landscape.  Since it is just the two of them, it did take a few days to complete, but both Tara and her husband are very friendly and easy to work with.  I was hoping to have the patio put completed in July, but I am very glad we waited.  Our patio has several curves and required a lot of brick cutting.  Each brick is cut perfectly.  If someone is looking for a landscape contractor/patio installer who really cares about the work they are doing, Dig in Design is for you. <br />"

"Another provider had indicated we would need to dig out the foundation and treat it.  Mr. Simon noted that the issue could probably be fixed by further extending the already long downspout.  The house is on a hill and the water was probably partially draining back toward the house.  This observation may save me thousands of dollars and Mr. Simon did not charge me for his visit. <br />"

"Prior to contacting Bryer, I had tried to get bids from 3 other painting contractors. Each time they would pull in the driveway, take one look at the steep tall roof (Michigan farm house) and pull out of the driveway without even offering a bid. I contacted Bryer <strong>Painting and Roofing </strong>company after reading reviews about them on <strong>Angies List</strong>. I selected them because they do a lot of commercial metal buildings and farm buildings. Harry Bryer (owner) showed up when promised and gave me a written bid (firm fixed price). Six months later I decided it was time to get it done and even though the bid had expired Harry said they would honor it. They showed up when promised and spent several days prepping the roof. They had a power lifter (cherry picker) which helped a lot. The entire work crew was pleasant and professional. Mr. Bryer was on site every day and did much of the work himself. I found out Mr. Bryer is quite particular because I could hear him telling his crew where they missed scraping a rust spot when they didn't know I could hear them. Always a good thing. Because the leaves were falling they had to adjust their work schedule to work around days when the wind was not blowing toward the house because there is a large tree next to the house. Even with the scheduling around the wind it took them about a week, start to finish. On the last day of the job, just before they had finished, Mr. Bryer came to my door to tell me his paint sprayer nozzle had misfired and it squired dark green paint onto my very white siding. No worries, he said it would be taken care and he was a man of his word. An hour later I reinspected and it looked as if nothing had happened. No extra charges, no change fees, and no hassles. No request for a penny upfront. <strong> I would hire Bryer anytime! Quality family owned business and they do terrific work.</strong> <br />"

"Howard Lawn and Landscaping Service conducts business and completes the job as we used to experience waaaay long ago.  Jessica Howard spent time with us to discuss the project as needed.  She was a super communicator.  We selected materials.  They were delivered and the projects started on time as promised.  If there was a change due to weather or an unforeseen situation, we were notified immediately.  The workers were great and the end result was beautiful.  Several years later we are still happy. <br />"

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Temperance, MI

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
