"We gave Jimmy an excellent rating even though he ran into some challenges with municipal permitting, city inspectors, and a work crew that left some things undone which needed to be corrected. To Jimmy's credit, he was always reachable by phone, responsive to our inquiries, and "Johnny-On -The-Spot" for getting things corrected that needed to be corrected. His crew foreman JJ was excellent in answering our questions and making certain that the installation was everything we expected. Not every job goes smoothly, but Jimmy made sure that we ultimately got the service and product we paid for. We would hire him again and recommend him to others."

"Great experience. Quote came very quickly, and it was very fair. When doing the work they arrived early as expected. Worked very hard and very fast. When the concrete arrived they were very careful and meticulous. They are really expert in their work. I couldn't be more satisfied."

"The pavestone work these guys did for us was outstanding!   The pattern on the S shaped walkway required hundreds of cuts and they all look great.  A very professional install that I continually receive compliments on how great it looks.

"They exceeded our highest expectations. They arrived on time and started on time. All of the workers were knowledgeable, professional, polite and courteous. They went above and beyond what the job called for. After painting the newly installed porch the gave all of the ledges and door edge a fresh coat of paint so everything looked new and matched. Their attention to detail throughout the entire project was excellent. When finished, they left the workplace clean and better than when they found it. I highly recommend this company."

"I have two very old (90 yrs) and very large pecan trees that I want to keep alive as long as possible. The J.S. crew did fabulous work with trimming and shaping. However, I felt the guy who gave the estimates was way over pricing me. I did call two other top rated companies after my trees were trimmed to get opinions and estimates. Both companies estimates to trim and/or removed my pecan tree, if necessary, was thousands less. The arborists from the other two companies not only gave much lower estimates, they were more focused on keeping my pecan trees alive and healthy."

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Texas City, TX

Most shed foundations benefit from a gravel layer four to six inches deep after proper compaction. The exact depth may vary depending on your specific soil conditions, climate, and shed weight. In areas with poor drainage or for heavier structures, contractors might recommend slightly deeper installations. Building the pad in multiple compacted layers rather than a single thick pour helps achieve optimal stability and load distribution.

Gravel pads cost significantly less than concrete foundations. While gravel materials run about $1.25 to $1.80 per square foot, concrete slabs average $6 per square foot. For a standard shed base, this price difference translates to substantial savings. Beyond the initial cost advantage, gravel pads also offer easier installation, simpler modifications if needed, and don't require specialized concrete finishing skills.

For a standard 10-by-12 shed pad, you'll need enough gravel to cover 120 square feet at the recommended depth. At rates of $1.25 to $1.80 per square foot, expect to spend $150 to $216 on gravel materials alone. Remember to factor in extending the pad beyond the shed's dimensions by one to two feet on each side for better drainage and stability, which increases the actual area needed.

The ideal gravel for shed foundations combines stability with proper drainage capabilities. Crusher run ($0.40 per square foot) makes an excellent base layer because it contains various particle sizes that lock together when compacted. For top layers, angular gravel provides better drainage while maintaining stability. Avoid perfectly round decorative stones as they don't compact effectively and may shift under weight, compromising your shed's stability over time.
