"Was looking for blinds but wasn’t sure what to get. Kurt went over his selection, he is very professional and he helped me chose without the salesman speech. Really appreciate that. My blinds were delivered and installed in just few days. The installation was done in one hour, very professional and extremely clean. I highly recommend Kurt if you’re looking for blinds. Giving Kurt 5 stars with no hesitation. I love my blinds, Thank you, Kurt!"

"Purchase of materials was fine. Carpet installation was fine. The hardwood floor installation was, and still is, a disappointment. The installation is shot through with gaps. Some of which were filled with an oil base putty whose color is not really close to that of the floor planks. The major issue though was that the installers failed to quiet squeaks in the subfloor of the whole upper hallway. Nor did they mention it prior to installing new flooring over it. The whole upstairs had to be ripped out and reinstalled. The Floor Store did pay for the rework but the fact that such thoughlessness was demostrated was astounding. The reinstall was performed by their "cleaner" but the nosing and several other spots have the same gaps with the same putty. I would not recommend The Floor Store. We cant be the only ones that have experienced."

"These people are The Best! I was having my house appraised, and needed to get the driveway, front porch and patio pressure washed. I was a nervous wreck, and kept changing the date when they could come out, but Joe was totally accommodating and got the work done on schedule. He and Heather did an incredibly thorough job, went the extra mile to make sure every surface was clean. This was the second time that I hired them, and I can't recommend them highly enough!"

"Phillips came out May 7 and looked at my existing wired Pillips alarm system to determine what was needed to replace my failed alarm/keypad. We discussed a display that would clearly show status in text not just numbers 1 - 8. I received a quote for a "Master Alarm system/display for $595." At that time I had no way to compare the system in the quote since the model number of the equipment to be installed was not specified. Seemed high since no wiring would be required. Phillips installed the new alarm and display using existing wiring on May 22. After seeing the keypad it clearly was a low end system, little better than my old 25 year old display. I had no idea how low end it was until I researched it. I'm a retired EE type so am more than capable of comparing specs. The installed display is available for ~$50, though no longer listed on the Napco web page. There is an updated version with a LCD display that would have been about $25 more. The alarm hardware itself sells for ~$100. I questioned what I paid $595 for and was told it was "probably" $295 for parts and $300 for labor. Twice I requested a more definitive breakdown of cost, but have not received a response in over a month. I am obligated to pay what I signed up for, lesson learned. But I would encourage any prospective customers to shop around and demand to know exactly what alarm system will be installed and how much labor would be required."

FAQs for blinds or shades repair projects in Troutdale, OR

If you're wondering whether repairing your blinds is worth it, consider the quality and age of your blinds. For high-end or custom blinds, repairing them can preserve their quality, functionality, and design, making repair a smart choice. Immediate repairs maintain the original look and performance. However, if your blinds are over six years old, extensively damaged, or of lower quality, replacing them might be more cost-effective, as new blinds offer better efficiency and modern technology. Weigh the repair costs against the benefits of replacement to make the best decision for your situation.

When damage undermines the integrity and appearance of your blinds, replacement becomes the clear option. You should replace your blinds when damage to slats or fabric prevents you from obtaining an exact match, thereby compromising appearance and function. Severe damage increases repair complexity and expense. Replacing blinds not only restores superior performance but also creates an opportunity for aesthetic upgrades and lasting benefits.

You should plan to replace your blinds at least every 10 years, with clear signs of wear, such as discoloration, deterioration, or functional issues, emerging by five years. Regular evaluation of style, quality, and performance supports an informed decision. While minor repairs may temporarily extend usability, a complete replacement secures optimal operation and updated design.

Establish a regular maintenance routine to keep your blinds looking and functioning their best. Clean them regularly with mild, specialized products and follow the manufacturer's recommended usage guidelines. UV-blocking window film can protect against fading and warping from sun exposure. Regular inspections and proactive maintenance will preserve their appearance and performance, extending their overall lifespan.

If you pull the blind string and it does not move, it indicates a malfunction in the mechanism, such as a broken cord, a jammed cord lock, or a stuck component. Inspect the string for breaks and examine the headrail for any obstructions. Replace the defective cord or cord lock as necessary to restore proper operation and maintain functionality.

Yes, you can replace your blind string yourself by using a replacement kit available at home improvement stores. Accurate measurement of the string diameter is essential for a perfect fit. Gather the necessary tools and follow the manufacturer’s instructions rigorously to secure a safe, lasting fix. If the task demands more time than anticipated, hiring a professional is advisable to avoid further damage.
