"When Mr. DeBenedetto and his crew arrived, I showed him the corner of the garage that I had forgotten to show him on his first visit, where there was some sort of a drainage issue that had evolved over time. He was able to give me an adjusted price on the spot to replace the apron of the garage, re-angled to an existing drain. When the crew broke through the old apron of the garage, they found that water from the broken drain had eroded quite a bit of the earth and timber supporting the corner. Mr. DeBenedetto prescribed filling the void with concrete, and was able to adjust his price a third time to include the new materials. When all was said and done (over 2 days), Mr. DeBenedetto and his crew completed two major jobs, one completely unanticipated (not in the original price) in a quite reasonable amount of time for a very fair price. The workmanship of the masonry and drainage work is excellent. The crew was pleasant and obvioulsy quite skilled. Overall an excellent outcome to major work. I would recommend Mr. Debenedetto withot hesitation."

Comprehensive results and analysis of inspection, including current foundation and drainage conditions (not performed)"

"The water issue was in a small unfinished corner of the basement after a very heavy rain and only once since we moved in without mold issues- but I decided to get French drains and mold treatment done anyways for the entire basement. "Through Angie's list I contacted Greenfield construction company and met with Frank Fasolo. I had called Frank to look at my front steps which were beginning to crack and the brick work to loosen becoming unsightly and perhaps dangerous. After inspecting the steps Frank recommended not repairing but to replace. I was in full agreement with this and Frank gave me an estimate that I felt was fair and within the price range that I had anticipated. Frank arrived promptly and on time on the day we had agreed upon to start the work. As the demolition progress it was discovered that at the time of the original installation of the existing stairs the contractor had failed to protect the building with flashing. This failure caused the building and the supporting studs to become rotted and presented a dangerous situation which in the end would have caused an area of the front entrance way to collapse. Frank immediately took all necessary steps to repair and replace where necessary all the rotted wood and then installed flashing and took other steps to protect the building in the future. The additional work required us to negotiate additional costs which was fair and within reason. The stairs and walkway were then built in a workmanship manner. All work done by Frank was done in a very professional manner and all cleanup was done to my satisfaction.
Throughout the entire experience I found Frank and his worker to be friendly outgoing and extremely pleasant people to do business with. I would highly recommend Frank to anyone who might be interested in any construction or building project. Frank was very helpful in finding a very capable ironworker to replace the hand rails and in following up to ensure that this work was done properly. Despite the difficulties we encountered when demolishing the old stairs, Frank's experience and assuring attitude kept me at ease.

"When we moved into this old Victorian we didn't realize we would have a problem with water showing up in our basement every time we had a big rain.
I called A-1 and another company to consult on the problem.  They, of course, were very familiar with this problem and recommended a french drain system into a sump with appropriate pumps to send the water outside.  The salesman (Bob) did a great job of explaining what they would be doing, the materials, and their knowledge of working on old houses.
Because of the vintage of the house (1901) it's a little tricky installing the french drain; normally you put the drain right at the base of the foundation wall; because the foundation in old houses are relatively fragile, you need to put the drain about a foot away from the wall and add a plastic liner to ensure water coming in at the base of the wall is channeled into the drain system.
I liked both company's proposals but decided to go with A-1.
Their crew (maybe 8-9 guys) showed up right on schedule to start 4-day job.  Initially, the foreman thought it might take 5 days but they were able to finish in 4.  I must tell you this was a huge, messy job BUT they did a great job of minimizing the impact on our house.  They helped us consolidate all of our stuff in the center of the basement, built a plastic barrier to protect it, then went to work.
They outlined the location of the drain line and the sump, then began jack-hammering which lasted two days (no napping in our house during that time).  They broke up the basement floor to dig the trench; that left a huge amount of debris to haul out, one 5-gallon bucket at a time.  They lined the trench with the appropriate fabric, then drain rock, then installed the drain pipe. They dug the sump and installed the 2 sump pumps and connected the whole interior system. They drilled through the wall to get the pump output line outside and trenched the line about 40 feet into the yard where they dug a dry well.
Then the finish work: mixing concrete and covering over the drain pipe in the basement. When they finished it was almost as though they hadn't been there. The basement looked as good as before; the yard (and our new landscaping) was undisturbed.
What I especially liked was the things they did to go over and above--things I wouldn't have thought to ask about: they removed a couple of brick columns along the wall that were leftover from now removed waste lines; they added two access drain lines tied into the main system for things like a dehumidifier.
I am very satisfied with all of their work--I definitely got my money's worth. So far, we have a dry basement.
