"I called J&S at 6:00 AM on a Saturday. The answering service took my call. I got a call back from J&S in 20 minutes. J&S told me that they could be out to replace the sump pump that afternoon. A plumber and helper arrived at 2:30. The plumber replaced the pump without difficulty. He explained both the replacement process and the features of the new pump."

"Jacob Gross performed a free inspection of my home & the sump pump previously installed by Perma-Seal. We discussed the Perma-Dry system which Jacob highly recommended. After he throughly explained the benefits of this Aprilaire system compared to a traditional portable dehumidifier I made the purchase and had him install the unit. Jacob was timely, polite, professional, and did quick and neat work. I would highly recommend Jacob and Perma-Seal."

"We were extremely please with Chris. We approached the project with baby steps. After an initial jet & camera of our current drain & floor tile we learned we had a blockage (which is why in heavy rains we were getting water & mud coming up). We then hired him to open a section of concrete to expose the drain tile and fix. This lead to the exposing a serious problem and we went further and had Chris replace the drain tile, add a new sump pump & tie into existing to create a "back up". Although it ended up costing us about $9,000 we are at complete ease knowing our basement is dry now! We will only be calling Aqua Doctor for any of our plumbing issues in the future."

"Repair guy was nice and did good work. Was not told ahead of time that I would need to pay 408 dollars for essentially hooking up a wet vac to the end of a pipe and turning it on for thirty seconds Expected to pay $200 Actual payment was $493 Line codes from the invoice S-Service Call $85.00 S-Blow Out Condensate Drain $408.00 DESCRIPTION OF WORK / RECOMMENDATIONS from vendor Condensate pvc drain clogged with sludge & slime. Cleared condensate drain with nitrogen & vacuum. Unit draining properly after repair. 0ppm co reading. No gas leaks found. Customer recently had a cc completed. All ok at departure. Recommendation is that if you need this service performed is to get a quote in writing from the vendor ahead of time or just get a shop vac and do it yourself. Will not recommend although would like to hear vendor response as to how this poor customer experience could work better. (UPDATE): The Vendor has reached out to try and mitigate the cost and is much appreciated."

"Nathan was very patient with all my questions and respects those who can do some DIY work. I tried to repair the issue on my own but ultimately needed to replace the entire pump. He installed a new one and it’s working great."

"I had 4 estimates and I went with Seepage Seal. They were honest, and didn't try and sell me something I didn't need. Their work was very good. They fixed the cracks in my foundation and cemented my crawlspace. I am very happy with the work and I would recommend them to anyone. Thank You for your great work. Val, Alex, and Eddy were all very professional and easy to work with."

FAQs for sump pump or interior foundation drains installation projects in Villa Park, IL

Most residential pumps draw approximately 1,300 to 2,900 watts when they first start, then settle at roughly 800 to 1,050 watts during normal operation. The exact number depends on the motor’s horsepower and how often the float switch tells the pump to run. Even at the high end, the electricity cost is minor compared with the expense of cleaning up a flooded basement.

Grab a ruler and an empty 18‑inch‑wide pit. During a steady rain, time how much the water rises in one minute. Multiply that depth (in inches) by 60 to calculate gallons per hour, then add 50% for safety. If the result tops 2,100 gallons per hour—about 35 gallons a minute—you’ll need a 3/4‑horsepower unit. Anything lower, and a 1/3- or 1/2-horsepower pump should do the trick.

Loud rattling, constant cycling, or shuddering vibrations are the pump’s way of telling you it’s on its last legs. Musty smells, higher electric bills, and visible rust are other red flags. If the unit is 10 years old or older and exhibits any of these symptoms, replace it before the next heavy rain turns your basement into a wading pool.

You don’t have to hire a licensed plumber, but you should still bring in someone who installs sump pumps for a living—whether that’s a plumber, basement‑waterproofing specialist, or experienced handyman. They know the local codes, can wire the pump safely, and will test the system before they leave. Skipping professional help might void the warranty and could leave you with a pump that fails when you need it most.

Not every basement needs a pump, but if your home sits in a floodplain, has a high water table, or has ever taken on water during a storm, a sump pump is inexpensive insurance. For basements that only struggle with condensation or the occasional damp spot, sealing cracks and improving drainage may be all that is needed.
