"Thanks to Peter Larkin and All Out Deleading, I was finally able to close out a long, frustrating saga of getting my lead-paint-covered, dilapidated windows replaced, along with some general deleading. Just to summarize, the work was done quickly and professionally and the windows themselves are of high quality, efficient, (Mercury Excelum EOS+) and look good, too! Peter was very responsive and communicated well throughout the process, and never fed me even an ounce of BS. You might have to remember to call him sometimes, but he's always there when you do. I thought the price was very reasonable for the scope of work (about $17k for 25 double glazed windows plus assorted exterior lead abatement, clean up etc) and was definitely lower than some others I found. If you're going crazy figuring out how to navigate Mass lead laws while also getting some actually good windows out of the process, just call Peter and he'll take care of you. Anyway, read on for the saga, if you're interested. I started the process of finding someone to replace my lead-paint-covered windows last September, and let me tell you I have learned a lot more about state lead remediation requirements than I had ever imagined I would. Let me just caution anyone in the same situation that there are two licenses/certifications that a contractor can have, a "lead safe" and an "authorized deleader," and for windows you need the latter if you want to end up with a certificate of deleading. Anyway, after drudging through the state's PDF list of contractors I ended up contacting one lead remediation firm, who strung me along for a few weeks before ghosting me by November. Then I found someone else, got a quote, took measurements, was all set before discovering they didn't have the "authorized deleader" certification, which would have prevented me from getting a certificate of deleading upon subsequent inspection. So I couldn't use them. Finally I called Peter in late February to come by and take a look by early March, which he did. Then Covid-19 happened and the world fell apart just a bit. Long story short, between waiting out the surge here in Mass and general pandemic related delays, we were back on track in the summer for taking measurements and able to order the windows. In the meantime, a crew was sent over to do some of the exterior work like wrapping the sills in aluminum. Peter's crew started the installation process literally the day after the windows arrived, which was the first week of November (storing them in my garage overnight). Be aware that you'll need to be out of the house for the duration of the work. Window delivery was a Thursday, they started work Friday, by Monday the lead inspector was back in, on Tuesday the results were back from the lab, and on Wednesday we were home. I will say that the floors were cleaner then we left them, and the windows looked great. Throughout this process, Peter either picked up the phone every time I called him, or called me back right after. He was always straight and open with me regarding when things were possible, the reason for any delays, and what potential pitfalls were. He was also extremely knowledgeable about government deleading requirements and could walk me through the details, which believe me, is something you want. And in the end when it came time to pay the final installment, there were no surprises. So if you want to save yourself a big confusing hassle and solve your lead paint problem, call Peter Larkin and let him take care of it."

"They replaced my windows in a timely manner. At first I was pleased with the appearance and quality of the windows from the inside, but I did not inspect the outside up close as the windows were all on the second floor. Two months later, in June, when I went to put up my awnings I discovered that the mounting brackets for the awnings had been removed and apparently discarded. As a result, three of my awnings can no longer be used. At that time I also noticed there was a sizeable gap, about three quarters of an inch, between some of the window frames and the house siding. <br /> Subsequently, I returned their written survey indicating my dissatisfaction and requesting that their representative contact me. I never heard from them again. I waited until October 5th and then telephoned their sales rep, Mat Taylor and explained the problem. He said someone would be in touch with me. That was three weeks ago and I still have not heard from anyone. For over two thousand dollars per window, I had expected better service than this. <br />"

"Pamela came to my home and we spent a couple hours discussing my objectives and style preferences for redecorating several rooms. She was intuitive in understanding my specific tastes and what I wanted to achieve.  She followed up quickly with a detailed written assessment and recommendations.  I was pleased with her working style, follow up, and professionalism and so we engaged in a further working relationship.  To date, she has been very helpful in guiding me and suggesting solutions for window treatments  in the living room and dining room which have since been installed. We collaborated on a basic furniture layout for a very small living area and its challenges. She worked with me on a sofa style and helped me select a fabric that would blend well with the decor.  I desired two leather sitting chairs and she provided good advice and options given the space constraints in the room.  She also provided an excellent catalogue of nautical art to browse through and I immediately liked the one she suggested for one of the walls which would be over a console table.  Pamela also found the console table for me. She offered to get the art piece framed and matted for me, and I couldn't be happier with her choice.  I also sent her a web link displaying several styles of buffet lamps for the console table and she quickly responded with her favorites which matched a couple of my favorites. I ordered two of them on line and they look great on the table with the art work above.  In summary, I am very pleased with Pamela's energy and follow up.  Her sense of style, color, and texture as well as her portfolio of resources has helped me immensely in navigating through this process."

"The job was perfect. The guys showed up on time, worked around existing contractors, the installer worked steadily throughout the day, cleaned everything, and finished in one day. I had a few last-minute changes that I discussed with Dmitry, he was able to accommodate immediately. Roofing and Siding of Cape Cod have worked on my house multiple times over the last 7 years. They have replaced windows, built an addition, installed multi-stage complex trim, re-shingled the entire house, replaced the roof, and performed many small repairs. They are always professional, courteous, meticulous and a pleasure to work with. They are very reasonably priced considering the level of professionalism and the quality of their work. They are always my first call for any issues and my first recommendation to anyone needing carpentry services."

"The men that came to our home were very professional and offered a lot of information.  They let me know that the roof may be able to go another year or two which was a pleasant surprise since we have a few other things to do to our house.  They examined the attic and offered some suggestions to help with better air flow and moisture removal to prevent mold. The price they quoted included a new layer on two sheds and a roof vent for our upstairs bathroom and a power vent for moisture control. It all seemed very fair compared to other quotes we received.  When the time comes to replace our roof we will definitely go with them. <br />"

"I had a 3 panel sliding patio door installed at my rental home.  This is the third time I have used Pella to purchase and install doors and windows both at buy rental home and primary residence.  There is no question that I would recommend them and used them again.  Nothing but outstanding from their sales representative, project manager and installers.  Simply the best!"

FAQs for new windows service projects in Vineyard Haven, MA

Yes, bay windows add value to a home. They enhance the property by expanding the interior space and flooding rooms with natural light. Their unique three-panel design creates a stunning focal point that elevates curb appeal and modernizes living areas. This architectural detail increases both functional space and visual appeal, directly contributing to higher home resale value.

Yes, all window types have the potential to become part of a bay window configuration when modified correctly. The transformation involves reconfiguring standard windows into a multi-panel design that features a larger central window flanked by smaller ones. This process requires precise professional planning and custom framing to ensure durability, visual balance, and structural integrity.

Bay windows typically consist of three glass panels extending beyond the home's exterior walls, with a larger center panel flanked by two smaller ones. In contrast, bow windows are composed of four to six equally sized glass panels that create a gentle curve and do not extend as far from the exterior walls.

Bay windows cost more than standard windows because their expansive, multi-panel design requires additional materials and skilled labor. Their construction involves extra glass, specialized frame components that extend outward, and complex operating mechanisms. These technical demands necessitate precise engineering and multiple expert installations, thereby significantly increasing both material and labor expenses.

Bay windows cost three times more than standard double-hung windows because their design requires extra panels, expanded framing, and a more complex installation process. The advanced construction method increases material consumption and demands comprehensive expertise, while specialized window treatments further elevate expenses. This all results in a significant difference in overall project cost.
