"From the first call to Atomic, the level of professionalism was much different (in a good way!). They gathered a good amount of information from us and stated they would have a truck come out in a few hours. The plumber (Ryan) called notifying us when he would arrive (early in the scheduled window). He quickly assessed the situation and provided us with a couple of options. He stated that it is best practice to replace the pressure tank and they automatically include that in the price as they are about $40. Without prompting, he also measured the shelving and stated they would not need to cut any shelving for the installation. We opted for the new water heater vs. a temporary repair. He quickly got on the phone and stated another truck will be delivering the water heater within 30-45 minutes. During that time, he let us know how long we would be without water and the process he would be following to remove the old water heater. He worked that entire time and was ready to go when the second truck arrived (great way to reduce the repair time!). They removed the old unit and installed the new unit. They provided us with instructions on ongoing maintenance and provided a great overview of the system. While they were slightly higher than Home Depot, the level of professionalism, quality of work, and warranty is much better than that offered by Home Depot. I'm glad we found an honest and quality plumbing company!"

"Five plumbing companies provided quotes to replace the main sewer line and install an in-ground clean out at my house. Mr. Rooter's quote was not the least expensive but it was the most reasonable and professional. Every person I dealt with was consultative, courteous and good at what they do. The work started on time and finished in about 4 hours. The only surprise was a good one: the technician discovered a second clean-out needed to be installed at the street end and did that at no additional cost, a good job done right. Everything cleaned-up neatIy afterward including the street. I watched the excavator operator do his thing and was impressed to see surgical precision achieved with heavy equipment and a joystick - from digging the trench in a narrow section next to the house, to filling it back in and then grading it perfectly (it rained heavily about an hour after work finished and all the runoff flowed exactly where it's supposed to go). One week, 14 long showers, 10 giant loads of laundry and countless toilet flushes later, the outflow is working better than it ever did before. Happy to recommend Mr. Rooter Plumbing without hesitation."

"All of the plumbers and other specialists who replaced my sewer pipe and installed a sump pump in my flooded crawl space were professional, respectful, hard working, and just really nice folks."

"Mike Gery/Big Mike's Maintenance was recommended to me by a friend. From the first time I met him, I knew that he was someone I could trust and rely on.
He is professional, dependable, and extremely knowledgable.
He's very friendly and his prices are affordable.
I started out with having Mike install an exhaust fan in my attic.
He then worked on my dryer.
Then I started having water damage on my living room ceiling, which turned moldy.
I'd had 6 people out, trying to figure out the cause.
Mike was the only one who took the time and listened to me.
He removed my kitchen ceiling and found that all the sub flooring was molded and rotted from leaks in the upstairs bathroom.
He completely gutted and remodeled my bathroom.
Repaired and replaced my kitchen ceiling. Fixed ductwork.
I am beyond happy with Mike's work and I am in love with my new bathroom.

"Amazing. Guy was wonderful, extremely flexible, did not charge me for 2 service calls even though he had to come to my home twice on the same day to remove and replace the hot water heater while working around the floor installer. If he had not agreed, on less than 24 hour notice, to attend to the hot water heater I would have had to wait almost 2 weeks before the floor installer was available again. He is very professional, does quality work and truly lives up to his NICE GUY name. His prices are very competitive and he goes out of his way to work with the customer. I'm not sure any other plumber would have done what he did and charge the customer for only 1 service call given he had to come to my home twice in order for me to accommodate installer for my kitchen floor. I have a couple of leaking faucets to fix and I will certainly be calling NICE GUY PLUMBING after I complete the rest of my big projects."

FAQs for water main install, replace or repair projects in Virginia Beach, VA

If you notice puddles or standing water in your yard, a sudden drop in water pressure, cracks forming in your foundation, frequent clogs in your plumbing fixtures, or water that looks or smells unusual, you might have a leak in your main water line. These signs mean it's time to call a professional to evaluate the issue and prevent further damage.

A professional water main inspection is a comprehensive evaluation performed by a licensed plumber who checks every section of your plumbing system. The inspection costs $165 and uses advanced diagnostic techniques to identify hidden leaks or wear. This service clarifies the exact condition of your water main, enabling precise repairs that prevent future damage and ensure the overall health of your plumbing system.

Protect your water main by scheduling a cleaning and inspection every two to five years. The average cost of a sewer line cleaning is $400. It’s also important to never dig in your yard without first calling the dig line (811) to ensure you don't accidentally hit the water or sewer lines. Watch for soil erosion, low water pressure, or wet spots in your yard, and take immediate action if you suspect a leak. Remember, the longer you leave it, the worse the problem gets and the more costly it is to fix.

When properly maintained, your water main is engineered to remain functional for 50 years or longer. A durable water service in excellent condition should consistently perform without major issues for half a century. In contrast, metal pipes exposed to acidic soil corrode faster, whereas modern plastic pipes resist corrosion and function for decades beyond metal alternatives. Regular maintenance and inspections are essential for confirming your system’s longevity.

No, homeowners insurance does not cover the cost to repair a water main. Insurers fund only sudden, unforeseen events like a burst pipe and exclude gradual issues or normal wear and tear. Damage resulting from leaks, such as mold remediation or property claims, is not covered. It is essential to contact your insurance provider immediately to confirm your policy’s details and any potential adjustments needed.
