"They installed a new boiler and central air conditioning in my DC rowhome and did a fantastic job. Joe answered all of my questions and they stayed on schedule with the project which was great because it was a larger project. I would highly recommend their services for the quality of workmanship and their prices were very reasonable as well. I will contact them again for future HVAC work in the DC area."

"I made the reservation a few days before we travelled.  We requested pick up at 4:00 PM -- when the driver, Mo, was not there at 4:10 I phoned Mike and just about that time the driver showed up.  It turned out he was down the street! He had one digit off the address.  This was not a big deal as we had plenty of time.  But as we were on the way, Mike phoned me to be sure everything was okay and then insisted on charging us only half the cost for the outgoing trip -- very nice!  We returned a week later, on time but it was nearly midnight.  Mike texted me to confirm our arrival, and then Mo phoned when we arrived to be sure we were okay.  We met up with Mo easily and had a relaxing drive home from the airport, no hassles!  Definitely recommend these guys -- very clean SUV, great service, no hassles.

FAQs for window a/c unit service or relocation projects in Washington, DC

If your window air conditioner is relatively new or of high quality, repairing it can restore optimal performance and protect your investment. However, for older units or those with ongoing issues, it might be more cost-effective to replace the unit to ensure long-term efficiency and reliability. Consider the unit's age, the severity of the problem, repair costs versus replacement, and energy efficiency ratings when making your decision. If repairs cost more than half the price of a new unit, replacement is typically the better option.

Window air conditioners last eight to ten years on average. After this time, you may notice decreased efficiency and component wear. Replacing an older unit can improve energy savings and provide updated features like remote controls and better overall performance. With proper maintenance including regular filter cleaning, coil checks, and professional servicing, you can maximize your unit's lifespan.

If your portable AC isn't cooling, it might have a refrigerant leak or a circuit malfunction that's preventing it from working properly. It's best to contact a local air conditioner contractor to inspect and repair the unit. If your AC is older and repairs don't fix the issue, replacing it might be the most effective solution.

Removing a wall-mounted AC costs $55 to $75. Completing the removal yourself at the end of each summer season, being sure to do so according to proper guidelines, keeps you within this cost range. Should you require professional assistance for removal and disposal, if you can't move the unit yourself, expect an added fee of $25 to $50 to the overall cost.
