"At the beginning of our search for remodeling our kitchen countertops, and in looking at the Angie's list of providers, we stopped by Schneider Stone without an appointment to see what they had to offer and look over their showroom.
We were immediately greeted by June, who gave us lots of attention and information, especially considering we did not have an appointment. Not knowing what we wanted, they gave us a tour of their samples and then a list of granite warehouses we might want to visit to help narrow down the options.
We live almost an hour away, but they were willing to do business with us, gave us an initial quote, and then continued to email and answer any questions we might have.
If we had lived closer, we would definitely have chosen them as our fabricators, due to their attention to detail and willingness to listen to our needs. The decision not to make several 2 hour round trips is on us, and no reflection on their services.
If you are considering renovating, we would definitely suggest stopping by and talking with them.
"

"The Grout Medic did an excellent job on this. The estimate was very detailed and through and Jessy Galdamez did a very careful and meticulous job. We especially wanted to minimize damage to recently painted surrounding walls and there was none. They also provided good tips on cleaning and maintenance of the tile. We learned the surprising fact that it's best to avoid harsh chemicals and bleach which over time can destroy the grout. Instead we now use vinegar and water, or one of the 'green' cleaners for all tile, countertops, and marble backsplash areas. They are a great company to work with; our 20+ year-old shower looks brand new!"

"Sales/contracting:
The sales process went very well. It included an on-site visit to help with selection and initial measurements. We also went out to the showroom/production facility off of Glenwood. They did offer to match a competitors quote. They were very responsive to email and telephone.

Template and Installation:
The template measurement visit was very professional and went off without a hitch. On the day of the installation, the installers were prompt, respectful, and hardworking. They took care to protect the flooring, furniture, and walls. The demo'd the old counters and removed them. They then installed the countertops. That went OK. We had some plumbing and other issues (See more on that later). They also did a good job of cleaning up too.

Plumbing:
We used the plumber they recommended. THANK GOODNESS. First the plumber had to cancel and without a beat the Countertop Factory team set up another plumber for us. The plumber was on-time to do all the reconnections. However, the holes made in the counters were not big enough to fit the faucet back in. Then the other fixtures would not fit back in because of the depth of the counter. It required us to make a couple runs to HomeDepot to replace the faucet and instant hot water heater. To everyones credit, the plumber stayed all day until it was repaired. I mean ALL DAY. That was GREAT customer service. In addition, the Countertop factory team came back out the same day to enlarge the holes. I am sure if I did not use their referred plumber, it would have been a very different experience.

Concerns:

The plumbing items that I indicated above that was resolved to my complete satisfaction.

The caulking of the countertops. These are a dark brown counter. I addition, I had an existing brown tile backsplash. The countertops were caulked in with a bright white caulk. A VERY poor finish and it really made it look unprofessional. They originally said that it was what it was, but after a couple calls they sent someone out that caulked it all in with a brown sanded caulk that matched it all very nicely and was what I would have expected from the start. This was resolved to my satisfaction, but in my opinion was a preventable matter that should not have occurred.

During the installation, it was found that my cabinets were not level. This caused them to wedge the counters level. I am OK with that. However, the wedges are right at the end of the counter and are visible. Again, it takes away from that professional installation feel. They indicated that nothing can be done about this. However, I have been paying attention to other installations I see and I never see any wedges underneath. I would not say this was completely resolved to my satisfaction unless I was told by multiple installers that "Yup you will see the wedges, that is normal"

This 4th one is my BIGGEST issue and the primary driver behind my no recommend opinion. In a very visible part of the counter there is a .5 X 1 cm white defect. It just stands out on the counters. It drives me nuts. I went with an engineered stone to get consistency. In addition, I went with CTF because they said they had a high volume. I figured if any defect would have been noticed in the stone that they would have not used that piece. Nope, their quality selection process said "Nope lets go with this piece for this small residential project and then lets cut it so that it sits right out on the counter". When I reached back out to the company, they said that unless it was a quarter size defect that was to be expected. REALLY - In an engineered product? Maybe if you are installing all the counters in a hotel, but in a small residential installation? I would think that they would be more careful. I would search for a place that has more attention to the stone selection or go with a cheaper product, so that at least you got what you paid for.

I posted pictures so that you could decide if these issues would be a concern for you or if I am just too fussy. I did send in their customer satisfaction survey with my comments and heard nothing back. They did not say they would respond to the survey, so I cannot really hold that against them

July 2012 Update -

We had a crack develop in part of the stone. Not sure what that means so short into the lifespan of the product. However, I can say that The Countertop Factory did come out promptly - First with the manufacturer representative to evaluate it and then out soon after that to repair it. They stand behind the warranty! That is a positive sign and we were glad to see that.

An update on the white defect. They recommended covering it with black permanent marker. Interesting solution. I can say that it DOES hide it. It wipes off about once a month and then you just cover over it again. It is a good work around. So while you are spending 4K on new countertops; pick yourself up a Sharpie to ensure a finished product that you will show to your friends."

"Shannon Warren of Surface Specialist came out and repaired a hole in my hot tub. He responded to my first call immediately and scheduled the repair within hours of that call. The job was done in less than 30 minutes and the tub looks as if nothing ever happened to it. The rate was reasonable and fair. He was professional, courteous and a joy to work with. I could not recommend Shannon any higher. He is the best in this area by far!
"

"Stone City did an outstanding job ! The people here worked as true professionals. The price they charged was very fair. Always arrived on time. The installers were respectful of our home.....they left everything clean and tidy. Hugo who owns this Business is great to work with. I shopped around before hiring them and if I ever have more stone work I would absolutely do business with them again."

"First, I contacted all my local area granite fabricators listed on Angie's List using their web site's 'contact me' function. I work all day so I can pay for these things and do not have access to make personal calls. This handy feature is great for communicating with a service provider during the times I have available to do so - providing somebody will read and respond to them.
Sadly, or happily for me as it turned out, the sole vendor to respond to my inquires was Upon the Rock Granite and Marble.
I had a great time corresponding with Gray in the office getting all set up for the service with quotations for each item. Mike and Rusty arrived right on time and set to work taking careful measurements of my new cooktop. After transferring the dimensions onto the counter they started building a dust containment wall since this was gonna be very messy. I happily provided some materials and assisted in creating the best wall we could to corral the granite dust .
They cleaned up the mess inside the temporary wall and I was happy to find there wan't granite dust everywhere. Next, he proceeded on to polishing a damaged marble top. Mike also build a slurry shield here so as to not splatter all over my walls. The end result was fabulous! I couldn't tell where the top had ever been damaged at all.
The best compliment I can give Upon the Rock Granite and Marble is they ROCK, pun intended.

"
