"Target Radon was very responsive and they worked in increments. They replaced the motor first. When that was not enough the replaced the stack. They continued working until the problem was solved."

"Mike and team were very knowledgeable and patiently answered all of my questions (and I always have a lot of them when dealing with contractors). They know their stuff and didn’t oversell or make false promises. I already had a mitigation system in place over my sump pit that came with the house, but it wasn’t adequate to service the multiple slabs that make up my foundation. Mike suggested a stepped approach to deal with the “hot spots” in the house and then re-assess whether additional action was necessary. They installed a clear lid over my sump and fixed the trap in my pit so that the existing fan was actually pulling suction on the foundation (and not the open drain from my exterior stairs). They also installed a second system that serviced two slabs and vented out through the back of the roof. Finally, they sealed up some cracks and holes around the foundations. Mike found a solution that was sensible from an aesthetics perspective as well as functional. The pipe runs through my entryway closet, and is as hidden and cleanly installed as I could have hoped for. We had a difference in opinion on how the finished roof flashing should have been done (more from an aesthetics perspective), but it’s on the back of the house behind the chimney so I wasn’t overly concerned about it. The system has reduced my levels to around 1pc/l down from a previous average of about 8 pc/l. So definitely within acceptable levels. I’m only a month in, so will continue to monitor over the next year to determine if any seasonal impacts require further action. I would definitely recommend them and plan to use them again if I need to (although I hope I don’t have to). If you are looking at this and don’t have your own continuous radon monitor, I recommend picking one up."

"It went very well. I HIGHLY recommend Home Detective. You can tell from the first phone contact with Robert that he knows what is doing.
He was very professional on the phone and during the inspection.

Robert thoroughly inspected every corner of the house and found areas of concern including gas leak, running toilet, water damage in the kitchen and much more which can be easily overlooked

More importantly, he showed me how save a lot of money on utilities bills (electric and water) and took the time to explain every aspect of the findings. Frankly, this inspection was like a training session for me. Robert is knowledgeable and passionate about what it does.

I will do business again with Robert and Highly recommend him to every one."

"I contacted Mitchell Home Inspections due to a positive referral from a friend. The inspector (Cliff) arrived early and was very knowledgeable and polite. He did a really thorough inspection and the report was well written with many pictures, notes, and findings. One of the most important things he did was to inform me that he observed radon mitigation systems on the surrounding homes. Based on this, I requested that he perform the radon test and we discovered that our home had a very high radon level. If he did not mention that, my family would be putting ourselves at risk for lung cancer (due to radon) without even knowing it. Now we have the mitigation system in place so we can sleep well and safe. THANK YOU CLIFF!!"

FAQs for radon gas abatement projects in White Hall, MD

The only way to know whether your home or water supply contains radon is to schedule a professional test. A qualified radon inspector will collect samples, deliver lab-verified results, and explain the findings for $150 to $800. Once you know your exact levels, you and your radon mitigation pro can choose the right system and tackle the problem before it affects your family’s health.

Both roles tackle radon, but they focus on different steps. Inspectors test your home, interpret the results, and determine whether levels exceed EPA guidelines. Mitigation pros design and install the system that lowers those levels. Some companies do both, but the skills and equipment differ, so always verify that the person you hire is properly certified for the specific service you need.

Installing a mitigation unit fixes radon problems by reducing indoor gas levels to established safe standards. A system designed and installed by a mitigation expert, tailored to your home's specific layout and foundation, guarantees effective radon reduction. This expert installation ensures consistent performance over time while safeguarding your indoor air quality.

Open windows and doors do not reduce radon levels because they trigger a pressure imbalance that draws radon-laden air into your home. This practice fails to control radon concentration and can even worsen the issue. An active suction mitigation system provides a proven, safe, and effective solution to reliably reduce radon levels.

Radon mitigation systems generally last between 10 and 30 years, depending on system type and maintenance. Passive systems endure the longest because they have no moving parts, whereas active systems, which use a fan, require fan replacement every 5 to 10 years. System components, such as PVC pipes, seals, and fittings, can remain effective for decades when paired with periodic inspections and proper maintenance.

Radon mitigation systems consume between 300 and 3,000 kWh of electricity per year, depending on fan size and system design. On average, an active radon fan draws 100 to 300 watts continuously, which translates to roughly 876 kWh annually, and adds $30 to $300 to your energy bill each year. Choosing a high-efficiency fan and ensuring tight sealing around pipes helps minimize these ongoing costs.
