He will return in the spring to finish the work by applying mortar under the granite and he will also do some stone wall repair at that time. While this project has been long and slow, Gary always quickly responded to my text and phone messages. The cost was more than I would like, but material costs are very high everywhere right now. "Just the facts: Our house is two-stories and 1700 sq ft; not large. The quoted price for a new roof, repair/replace/clean the gutters, and rebuild/cap one chimney was @ $19,000. Once the work was started and shingles removed, Sean said the wood on the roof was in bad shape and needed to be replaced as well. This would add the price of plywood (they used MDF) plus two extra days of labor for 6 workers. For this he charged an additional 46,000, bringing the cost of the job to @65,000. Lesson learned: ask for a quote that includes the chance that the wood on your roof would need to be replaced with plywood. If we’d known BEFORE they tore off the shingles that it would triple the cost, we would have shopped around for a better price. The workers were excellent and the job was well-done; the project was simply way too costly."
