"Bob was great. Very professional. I am very pleased with the quality of the repairs on the cabinet doors and the ceiling. He was also very straightforward about the limits of what could be done with one of the repairs that was very delicate work. He impressed me a honest and hardworking. And a good value. Worth every penny."

"We met with Ray a number of time to go over exact cabinet details as well as finishes.  We elected a high-gloss white that is simply beautiful.  What we did ahead of time is decide exactly how many pull out draws we wanted and there exact heights so things like cans, bottles, etc. would fit in cabinets in the location we wanted.
The install went perfect and they had to move in some large pieces through the rear sliding door.  Nothing got dinged (nothing!)  The cabinets fit like a glove.  They leveled every piece exactly.  They scribed each piece to fit exact.  The fridge fits with about 1/8" clearance which is the tolerance we needed for the manufacture's trim kit.  The stove fit just as well.  We opted for the soft close drawers glides which are just great.  I just give them a push and the close feather soft..
Look around but definitely get a quote from Ray.  I think you will be very pleasantly surprised  with his prices.  His design skills are a great asset and as he knows exactly what he is building and there are no surprises.  It is not often you can get a soups to nuts solution where there is never any finger pointing.but here is the rare case.."

"

This was about as seamless a kitchen renovation that one could ever hope for.  Dave listened carefully to the goals we wanted to achieve in our kitchen, and was patient with the design adjustments we wanted to incorporate as we considered each version of the design plans.  One cabinet in particular that was added toward the end of the design process was brilliantly conceived on his part--a cabinet to store large items that looked like a lovely piece of dining room furniture, with exterior shelving and drawers. It is a centerpiece in the kitchen.  Dave was careful to preserve important walk ways in our kitchen so as to not create bottlenecks--an important element in this centrally located kitchen.  His advice on style and color of cabinetry was also highly valued in our desire to achieve a cleaner and brighter look, yet one that was still consistent with our 1931 Colonial.

The Brookhaven cabinets are beautiful and well-made.  While they are pricey, Dave was able to steer us to take advantage of a manufacturer's discount.  The selection of hardware that was available without incurring additional cost was completely adequate, and we took advantage of this option.

Installation of the cabinetry was smooth and timely.  We decided to make a last minute change to the placement of our microwave, which necessitated the order of a new drawer.  This took longer than we had hoped, but understood that this was not a Kitchen Center issue, but rather one of the manufacturer, as each items is custom made.  When the drawer arrived, it was without a front--this added more time.

Once the cabinetry was installed, irregularities were minimal.  Dave and a service that works with him tended to adjusting hinges, covering screw heads, and painting areas that needed to be smoothed.

Overall, working with the Kitchen Center exceeded our expectations.  Communication and responsiveness were excellent.  They partnered well with our contractor so that there were no glitches or last minute surprises--almost unheard of for a kitchen renovation.  The quality of the design and workmanship has made for a space that we are loving, and our only regret was that we did no redo our kitchen sooner!

"This was my wife's and my first time working with a contractor. Typical frustrations were present--work being done well past the end job date in the contract, for example. Half of the delay was our fault as we searched for flooring; the other was theirs. It was very difficult getting in contact with the folks who were supposed to be our points on the project--calls, text, and emails often went unanswered. We did not feel like our job was even close to a priority.  We would go multiple days in a row with nothing done, despite being told that so-and-so was totally on their way. On a few occasions, I was told by subcontractors who'd been absent for scheduled work that they'd been held up at another job, overbooked by Compass with our kitchen being clearly something to fit into the end of the day--if possible. It's funny, as I don't recall getting a discount for being a side project!
Quality of work varied. The (room) painter and floor installer were excellent. The guys who installed the countertops deviated from the design wildly, though this ended up fine--a happy accident. The folks who painted the cabinets did a poor job that needed multiple corrections. The tile installer used torn pieces of corrugated cardboard rather than plastic spacers, resulting in an uneven backsplash that needed a partial do-over; I'd call it "good enough" now. The electrician and plumber were great. Whoever did the material removal was obviously in a rush--as the snow melted from this past winter, we?d find chunks of wood, pieces of crown molding, and blobs of adhesive. Additionally, someone left a piece of scrap on our deck that seems to have stained it after a rainstorm, though because we?re getting that resurfaced, whatever.
We found ourselves acting as quality control, as the guy who was supposed to oversee our project was generally too busy to check in on the subcontractor's progress. We often wondered what we were paying Compass for, as we were perfectly capable of hiring subcontractors and telling them what to do ourselves. We had hoped that it would have been a more hands-off process, but we found ourselves marking crooked tile and pointing out entire cabinet panels that hadn't been painted.
A note: the company president stopped by for sales and financial stuff--the initial quote, as well as the first and final checks for payment. Speaking of final payment-- the contract we?d signed with him mentioned that ? of the balance would only be due once *all* of the countertops were installed. Due to someone?s error, a section of granite was lost for several weeks, delaying final installation. At the time that Compass demanded final payment, that last bit of granite had not yet been installed, but when we mentioned this to the president, he became annoyed. We ended up handing over the check there, however wrong it felt, because the project had been dragging on and we just wanted our kitchen back. The counter was eventually completed (after one last no-show from the installer).
The final result is? fine. Little nagging things remain, but they?re small enough for me to take care of myself. We?re happy with our kitchen, but the process to get it is one we wouldn?t like to repeat.

FAQs for cabinets repair projects in Winthrop, MA

The timeframe for kitchen cabinet removal varies significantly based on quantity and installation complexity. Professional contractors typically complete standard kitchens within 4 to 8 hours, though complicated configurations involving plumbing or electrical components may extend to 1 to 2 days. Homeowners tackling this as a DIY project should allocate substantially more time—often 1 to 3 full days—as careful extraction requires methodical work to prevent property damage.

Kitchen cabinets can indeed be salvaged for reuse when removed carefully. Construction material significantly impacts success rates—hardwood cabinets generally survive extraction better than composite materials, which tend to chip or break. For optimal preservation, document the original layout, remove doors and hardware first, then methodically detach units from walls and adjacent cabinets. Professional removal significantly increases the likelihood of successful cabinet preservation.

Disposal options for kitchen cabinets depend largely on their condition and your local waste management regulations. Cabinets in reasonable condition might find new homes through donation centers or online marketplaces. For damaged units, professional waste removal services offer convenience, while dumpster rentals provide flexibility for larger projects. Some municipalities offer special collection services for bulky items, though advance scheduling is typically required.

Wall damage during cabinet removal represents a legitimate concern for many homeowners. The risk varies based on installation methods—cabinets attached directly to drywall without backing supports pose greater challenges than properly mounted units. Professional removal minimizes damage through specialized techniques and appropriate tools. Even with careful extraction, expect some minor wall repairs. Older installations and homes with plaster walls require particularly delicate handling to prevent significant damage.
