"This company rebuilt a badly deteriorated cement-block retaining wall which supports my elevated driveway, repaired numerous concrete sidewalk cracks and a crumbling step, replaced an ugly, old, insecure chain-link gate with a beautiful steel door, and installed attractive brick borders around a couple of small garden spaces (after also cleaning up those weedy spaces). The price was more than fair; I'm very pleased with the work, timeliness and charming personality. I wouldn't hesitate to hire them again."

"Tea and George are gifted artists and are extraordinary craftsman and craftswoman. The book shelves and cabinets they designed and built for the new extension to our house are beautiful and very functional. George’s particular attention to details and construction are evident in the completed project, even more so given the difficult space in which it was installed. Their professionalism and extraordinary care in the delivery and installation phase were greatly appreciated. We highly recommend Art Woodstone Studio."

"We love our cabinets! They look fantastic while remaining affordable. The friendly staff at AWD helped us from start to finish. They are very knowledgeable and gave us advice and tips when needed. They were receptive and patient with our ever-changing needs. Once we finalized our purchase, we received our cabinets within two weeks! The cabinets are very sturdy and the color is beautiful. The hinges and hardware are high quality. We are extremely pleased with AWD and would recommend them to any friends or family looking for good cabinets at a fair price."

"They quickly assessed our situation, explained the required repairs, and worked with us to choose materials that would complement the existing out of production tile. In addition to repairing the water damage and restoring the look of the shower, they repaired the drywall behind the shower wall, painted, and installed a ceiling fan. The work was performed quickly, and they did a good job. We are pleased with the results. I was especially pleased that they were able to use the existing glass enclosure and sized the step into the shower to match."

"Bob showed up on time (within the window) and was very courteous and professional. Upon entering he noticed an old piano that we have which could use some work and he stopped to comment on it and suggested refinishing it. At first, i thought, oh jeez - i just want this guy to look at my kitchen cabinets, not worry about some old piano -- but i quickly realized Bob loved his job, was interested in the old piano and was just plain being nice. On the kitchen cabinets we talked about how he'd resurface them, he took some measurements and then - to my delight - gave me a rough estimate on the spot with two different options! He was thoughtful, quick and very knowledgeable. Dont know if we'll do the work, but his prices seemed fair."

"Great! He arrived on time, with the right amount of crew, tools and positive attitude! He was very experienced with Ikea cabinets and knew when we had purchased the wrong items. He also knew when to send me back to Ikea for different parts. Ikea made alot of mistakes and he knew that was common. He wrote down the numbers of the items i needed which was extremely helpful. He and his crew were fantastic and i would hire him again in the future. His prices were very reasonable and i appreciated that. I had two glass doors that were on back order so he said i could hold back $200 from his pay until they czme in. I called him on Sunday and told him i just picked them up. He told me they would be there on Monday morning to finish the job. Of course he arrived on time and he finished the job quickly. Of the 4 companies i hired to do various things in my kitchen his was the only one i didnt have issues with. I asked him to install the lights inside and underneath the cabinets and install the microwave. The lights were difficult but he worked hard until they were done. They make the whole kitchen shine! He was extremely reasonable with the microwave installation price. I asked him for several cards and already passed them out to people that wanted a new kitchen i told them he is the best installer i ever hired. He made this overwhelming project so much easier."

"I couldn't be happier with my experience with Norm, Sean, Jim and the crew. From cradle to grave, this has been the easiest remodeling project I have ever undertaken. They were one of two crews that were willing to do the work in my kitchen, and they were the ONLY crew willing to do all of it, and correctly. I received excellent service, salesmanship and a 100% no BS policy. They showed up early for the prep work by one day, and handled business for the next 10 days, no complaints, and no issues. My kitchen looks like something from a magazine now and we're talking an update from a 1950s galley-style, row home kitchen. I couldn't be happier."

FAQs for cabinets repair projects in Washington, DC

The timeframe for kitchen cabinet removal varies significantly based on quantity and installation complexity. Professional contractors typically complete standard kitchens within 4 to 8 hours, though complicated configurations involving plumbing or electrical components may extend to 1 to 2 days. Homeowners tackling this as a DIY project should allocate substantially more time—often 1 to 3 full days—as careful extraction requires methodical work to prevent property damage.

Kitchen cabinets can indeed be salvaged for reuse when removed carefully. Construction material significantly impacts success rates—hardwood cabinets generally survive extraction better than composite materials, which tend to chip or break. For optimal preservation, document the original layout, remove doors and hardware first, then methodically detach units from walls and adjacent cabinets. Professional removal significantly increases the likelihood of successful cabinet preservation.

Disposal options for kitchen cabinets depend largely on their condition and your local waste management regulations. Cabinets in reasonable condition might find new homes through donation centers or online marketplaces. For damaged units, professional waste removal services offer convenience, while dumpster rentals provide flexibility for larger projects. Some municipalities offer special collection services for bulky items, though advance scheduling is typically required.

Wall damage during cabinet removal represents a legitimate concern for many homeowners. The risk varies based on installation methods—cabinets attached directly to drywall without backing supports pose greater challenges than properly mounted units. Professional removal minimizes damage through specialized techniques and appropriate tools. Even with careful extraction, expect some minor wall repairs. Older installations and homes with plaster walls require particularly delicate handling to prevent significant damage.
