"My mother-in-law contacted this company to fix a leaking gas line in her home. Plumber (Bryce) came out in a timely manner and checked on the status of their lines. After finding 11 leaks near fittings it was recommended to replace the old gas line. At this point, everything seemed good and then came the quote. This company wanted roughly $3800 to replace by their estimate; 50ft of line from the meter through a drop-down ceiling with easy access to two appliances. Making the job cost a whopping $75 afoot! At this point, I got involved as it was clear they were taking advantage of her given the time of year (New Years) and the cold temperature. Having worked in construction for many years, I asked Bryce why this relatively simple job was going to cost so much. After some back and forth he became defensive and hung up on me. I advised my mother-in-law to pay for the work they had done and never talk to this company again. She made an appointment with another more reputable company and they quoted her $980 ($20 an ft) to do the same work! Now tell me where the $2800+ difference comes in besides this company seeking to take advantage of women in a bad situation. It is practices like this that give this industry a bad name and I would be ashamed to be associated with this company in any way. Always get second opinions on work and watch out for companies like this they prey on peoples trust. UPDATE: Was contacted by the company manager, they apologized for what happened and stated that the above tech had been let go due to past transgressions of a similar nature. Additionally they waived the service fee she had been charged for that techs works. I appreciate the manager taking the time to try and make this right and reaching out to her. Updated rating based on these actions. "At first the plumber tried to fix it but that didn't work. The part was too old and corroded. Se he went out to the truck for parts which he brought just in case, but as luck would have it, the parts he brought did not match the part in the faucet and he had to go to Lowe's, and Lowe's didn't have it so he had to go downtown. This fixture is over 18 years old. So what could have been a half-hour job turned into a two and a half-hour job, but he did get the part and it was easy to turn . However, all we checked for at that time was how easy it was to turn, but that night when we actually used the shower, we discovered that when we turned it to hot, cold water came out and on cold, hot water came out so it was backwards. Called them and they came out the next day and found the pipes behind the shower have the hot water running down the right side and the cold down the left. He resolved the situation by putting the cylinder in backward to match the pipes, and now it works the way it should. So, they didn't make out so good on this job. But that is one reason I selected Allen Plumbing. I noticed in reading reviews that the owner responded to every one and was dedicated to making sure the job was done right. In regard to price, I haven't used a plumber in 30 years, so yeah, there was some sticker shock since I've always done things myself and pay only for parts. The part, in this case, was $49. But unlike manufacturers, they can't outsource or automate, so I imagine putting an experienced plumber in the field is an expensive proposition what with trucks, fuel, inventory, insurance and so on. Also, I figure I am not just paying for labor, I am paying for knowledge and expertise, otherwise I would do it myself. But they have a jobs categorized from one to seven with standard prices for each category, so if you describe the job they can give you a good idea of what it will cost beforehand. As regards sticker shock, I get that every time I go to the dentist."

"Our 12-year-old heat pump needed around 2000 in repairs so we began getting quotes from dealers about a new unit. I had 4 different quotes ranging from Trane, Lennox and Carrier products. Star heating and cooling was the 2nd cheapest when it came to overall cost, but my salesman Marshall was the only salesman to explain how the rebates, financing and the units worked. What I mean by that is he took the time to explain why different companies offered rebates and no financing or vice versa. In the end he was upfront in telling me there really is no free money when it comes to 0% APR in the HVAC world (he compared it to buying a car, take the rebate or taking the financing you usually don’t get both). That took me by surprise but I liked it. Star was also the only company to inquire about switching from electric to gas. After lots of research I was still skeptical but Marshall and the owner guaranteed my bills would be lower, so much so that they put it in writing that if my heating and cooling bills did not drop by switching to gas they would replace the gas unit with a heat pump free of charge. That impressed me. The heat pump I currently had was a Trane XL14i so it wasn’t a builder grade but a very good and efficient unit. We decided to get a little higher end model due to just having moved in to our new home less than a year ago and having plans to live here for a long while, so we purchased a Carrier Infinity 59TN6 Gas Furnace and a Carrier Infinity 24ANB6 AC unit along with the Infinity Thermostat we also added HUMXXLFP Humidifier. The price listed above does not include the $1925 in rebates offered. So that made the price a bit more competitive. Finally, one of the other quotes I had offered a 15 year parts and labor warranty, when I told Marshall about that Star Heating offered 10 years parts and Labor so long as I signed up for their yearly plan (no big deal because I planned on doing a plan due to the high cost of replacing a unit) but something to think about. Installation took the majority of the day but it went smooth, the guys worked hard and did a great job making things look nice and cleaning up. They installed a new gas line into my house with a T to allow us to convert something else to gas if we want. The owner was onsite and Marshall did check in as well. It is spring time so I have not really tested out the product but I’m going to assume it works, we installed the unit before the gas line was ran due to Star's scheduling so we will be able to test it out in a week when our gas line is run to the house. I would recommend Star Heating in Cooling to anyone who needs a new system. I would also recommend educating yourself on what you are buying. This is something I did a ton of and while it probably drove Marshall nuts that I was emailing him constantly about different things, he answered every question I had and went out of his way to make sure I was happy. He even brought ov"

"They were unable to clear the drain through exhaustive effort, and quoted a pipe replacement that would be required to finish the job. The quote to do that work was about $4800.00. I chose to get a second opinion, and they suggested the same repairs, but the quote to do the work was just over half the price quoted by Mr. Rooter. I used the other company and they were great."

FAQs for gas piping projects in Fortville, IN

Plumbers with proper licensing and credentials install and relocate gas lines. When hiring a professional, verify they have experience with gas systems and all required certifications. Some homeowners choose to work with plumbers specializing in natural gas installations, as they have extensive experience with similar projects and understand the safety requirements.

The timeline for gas line relocation varies based on project complexity, permit processing, and inspection scheduling. The physical labor takes a few hours to one day, depending on the line length. However, the actual installation work represents only part of the overall project timeline. Your contractor should provide a specific timeframe based on your circumstances and local permitting requirements.

Your gas supply must be shut off during the relocation process. This safety measure prevents gas leaks while connections are being modified. Plan for this temporary service interruption by making alternative arrangements for cooking, heating, or other gas-dependent systems in your home. The shut-off generally only lasts for a portion of the work, often a few hours.

Relocating gas lines to connect new appliances is a common reason for this type of project. Whether you're installing a gas stove, fireplace, dryer, or outdoor grill, a professional can determine the best route for extending your existing gas system. The cost will depend on the distance between your current gas line and the new appliance location.

Gas line work is not suitable for DIY projects. Natural gas is highly flammable and potentially lethal if not handled correctly. Gas leaks can be difficult to detect without specialized equipment. Professional plumbers have the proper training, tools, and experience to safely relocate gas lines while ensuring compliance with local building codes and safety standards.
