"Leak was determined to be the result of hole in a buried galvanized water pipe. Installed new hot and cold Upomor pex pipe waterline from main house to guest house in back yard. Difficult job required much digging in several sites to expose necessary tees/joints. Clean up was shoddy because pavers/bricks/stones were removed but not correctly replaced. "Called at 8 am Saturday and on call plumber said he had a scheduled appointment but would be able to make the repair Saturday afternoon. Upon arrival he removed the insulation and found that the pipe had separated at the connector. JD Plumbing had repaired the pipe in January 2018 after the pipe froze and burst. The plumber, Sean, pointed out that the repair they made had separated but said since it was past the one year warranty he would need to call his manager to see what could be done on price. Sean made he call, sent a picture of the broken pipe and, after a second discussion, advised that the repair (normally $399) would be made at no charge even though we were past their warranty. This company is responsive, honest, and provides great customer service."

I try to support my local companies - which is how I found Heaton. 

When I called, I was given a time between 4 and 6pm.  I was called about 4:30, they were having vehicle trouble, but would still be by today.

Nathan and Jimmy arrived, looked at the house fixture to replace.  While we went to shut the water off and Jimmy went to get the parts from the truck, Nathan gave me the quote of $144 for the fixture, and $45 for the service fee.  I asked why it was so much for such a little part and I knew it should only take a few minutes. The cost for replacing a second of these small fixtures is $60. Nathan called and spoke with his supervisor who said we could pay $125 instead.  I said no, I'll just pay the service fee, I am not paying an extra 20. 

Ended up paying for a $60 part and the $45 service fee.  (my reason for my grading above was the original quote for such a small job and how I had to negotiate down)

Once that was behind us, they got to work.

It seemed like Jimmy was an apprentice as he was not sure which way the Teflon tape was supposed to wrap around the pipe.  Nathan was patience in trying to explain why the tape goes a certain direction.  My real concern was when Jimmy was tightening my bib onto my pipe and used excessive force bending the pipe down approx. 75 degrees. 

Nathan corrected him, and immediately inspected the pipe.  He informed me, IF something was to go wrong we have a one year warranty.

We turned the water on, then realized the ball valve handle was damaged during the installation.  Turned the water off again.  They went and got a new ball valve, this time Nathan installed the bib.  No leaks from the fixture. 

I'm still concerned about my pipe and will continue to watch it for the next few weeks.

Local or not, I will try someone else next time.  I do not need someone that inexperienced working on my house for the prices they are charging.
