I informed them that I checked with the city building commissioner and was told I did not need the drip pan in an unfinished basement with a floor drain within 2ft of unit. It’s too late to call the city as they closed and if I knew it was going to be a money grab I could have purchased a water heater and installed it my self rather than sit at home all day waiting for them to arrive. Also the inspection failed because they failed to install the proper shut off valve. I appealed to the business owner saying I was not told nor is there anywhere on their web site mentioning this. He said I put a drip pan on every installation whether customer wants or needs it or not or city codes don’t require it. Lowe’s has a similar pan for less than $10."

"On Thursday, the technician (David) came to my house to look at two projects: replacing a leaking electric water heater, and installing a new gas line (in my crawlspace) to my masonry fireplace so I can convert from wood to gas logs.
