"It went great, this is a unique service, for DIY-ers. My electric dryer wouldn’t heat, so I went on line and diagnosed the problem and ordered the parts. I also watched several how to videos, but none of them matched my dryer. Finally went on Angie’s list and it matched me up with Tin Lizzee which is a chat service to help you through your repair. The technician I talked with was polite, professional, and knowledgeable. I did get stuck during the repair and they called me on my cell and talked me through what I needed to do. I know I saved a lot of money by not having an appliance repair person come to my house with the mark up on parts and labor rates per hour I believe I saved at least half of the cost, if not more from ordering on line and chatting and talking to the Tin Lizzee technician, it was $30 well spent."

I had a few estimates for the garage door, all of which were a lot more than what Creig quoted me for. Also the other garage door companies said that I needed to get the rafters in the garage repaired and the door opening to be cut out larger before they could install the garage door, which would have added more cost and time to get the job done. Creig was the only one who was able to do everything for a very reasonable cost, since he is also a handyman. He took the time to explain everything that he was going to do. "Matt, the owner of Platinum Plumbing, was the first to respond to my request for a plumber, the most knowledgeable and reasonably priced. The job was a challenge because I live in a small two story townhome where the tank water heater was located on the first floor in a kitchen closet that I want to convert into a food pantry. I wanted the tankless water heater to go on the other side of the closet wall by my washer and dryer. Two additional plumbing companies looked at the project. One gave me an extremely high estimate which included work that wasn't necessary and the other said it couldn't be done because of venting problems through the second story. Matt was the only person who knew how to assess the job without the need for extraneous costs and knowledgeable enough to solve the venting issues. "Two techs arrived on time. They wanted to check out my water heater first. They tried to convince me it was old (it isn't) then tried to convince me it was installed wrong (it wasn't). We then went into the house where they flushed one toilet and looked under the kitchen sink. Even though i have 3 additional bathrooms with toilets they were done and left. It was so painfully obvious they came only to sell me a new water heater. I immediately cancelled my service contract with them. I have had them service my air cond/heater since they installed it about 11 years ago. I noticed that unlike previous ownership this new group tried to sell me something on every trip. I went for the new duct work because I figured it was over 30 yrs. old and didn't realize I was now dealing with a large corporation instead of a family owned business. The next trip they said I needed some kind of compressor booster based on the units age. 2 other companies said that was nonsense. Now the fake plumbing visit. Even though there service contract was very reasonable I don't trust them anymore and won't have them back in my house.

"AHS is ok. They cover repairs of most everything under the roof of your house. The companies that contract with them are not always the best. You call AHS with the issue, they send a fax to the repair company and give you the contact info. If they don't contact you within 24 hours, you call them. Sometimes they answer, sometimes they don't. When they arrive (usually three days or so later), they service the item. if it has issues within the 90 days, you call AHS again, they are sent out with no charge. If the serviceman decides the unit is unrepairable, AHS will allow you to choose a replacement from their listing (usually not as good as what you have) they will install and remove your old item, or give you wholesale amount to buy and install your own. Prices vary on what you want covered and what you want the copay to be, plus where you live. For me it is 49.99 per month with a 75.00 time of service order. You can have more than one item serviced at the same time under the same fee. If you have a SEAR product the repair guys are great. Not that wild about the other ones they send out. But it is a big savings compared to calling someone on your own. The cost of service is only the 75.00 copay."

"Originally, I called to get a new attic ladder installed, some plywood placed over the 2 x 4's on the attice floor, and asked for a new opening in my ceiling. Placing the plywood floor was particularly complicated because there are water lines, electrical lines, and air ducts that ran along the attic floor or close to the floor. Also, we have trusses in the attic that make moving around difficult. Ron gave me an estimate which I felt was reasonable. As the work progressed, however, I realized that I had no way to turn on the attic light from the new opening and the lighting where the new attic floor was laid was rather poor in places. So I asked Ron to install additional lighting and a two-way light switch. While he was here, I also asked him to look at a GFI plug that kept tripping and to move a light fixture since the new attic opening would be placed where we had a ceiling light. He also had to build a new door for the attic and frame and paint it since the attic ladder I purchased did not come with a door. Ron moved the light at no charge to us because he felt it was very simple and would not take a lot of time. However, we expanded our request for flooring (to cover more attic area than originally thought) and with the additional electrical work, he brought in one of his electricians to ensure the work was performed properly. All went very well and he was quite accommodating as our request for his services continually expanded beyond the original scope. We worked together on pricing to ensure all was fair."

"I used Home Advisor because I needed to repair our Maytag 300 quite series cloths washer. The technician that came said that he was a third party for A Star Services. The first impression I received was that he wasn't to knowledgeable in the job itself. Second he did not seem to enthused about doing the repair which he said required a new bearing. He kept trying to put the model number into his cell phone which he said was not responding. He then said that he was going to go to his vehicle and cal his friend who has did numerous bearing replacements for this type of machine and would know the part number that he would need. He returned later and told me that it would be incredibly labor extensive and the total repair would be over $800.00. I could buy a new dented/scratched washer and dryer together for that much money."
