"We met with a few different upholsterers and decided on Alex. <br /> His pricing was comparable but he was very up front about what he thought the furniture needed.  some of the other people we met gave us a price and really did not discuss any details. <br /> Mr. Garber was very easy to work with.  He was very professional.  Our loveseats look incredible.   Even better than we thought they would look.  We had strongly considered buying new furniture but could not find anything we liked better that was new so decided to go forward with reupholstering.  The fabric was a detailed pattern and he matched it perfectly at every seam.  He added padding where needed.  His pricing is fair.  He explained what could be done and he would do what we wanted.  We were very very picky about the particular fabric we wanted and he worked with us on this. <br /> Once he had our furniture he had it ready in a couple of weeks, which was sooner than expected. <br />"

"Went for consultation on water damaged sofa. Knowledge was shared and opined that the furniture was ok. They repaired a torn zipper on a cushion cover in a flash and did not take money for it. Great people."

"They did a fantastic job!. We had to wait a little bit after they picked up the furniture, but the wait was definitely worth it. Our furniture is about 70 years old and was scratched and chipped, but now looks better than new. They are not inexpensive, but the workmanship is worth every penny. We would use them again."

"Same and his son Andrew were very helpful with choosing the right fabric. They made sure that the chair framework was solid and added just a little more padding to make the chairs better than new."

"Everything turned out beautifully. We started with the recaning job, and we were so pleased with the results, we decided to go forward with the other 2 projects. John and Cindy are a pleasure to do business with, both are very meticulous, and their prices are extremely reasonable. Thank you, John and Cindy, for everything!"

"I had hired William Eden to refinish six solid maple, mid-century library tables at my former place of work, and the result was so terrific that I decided to hire him to refinish my kitchen table. As with my prior experience, I was very impressed with Bill's work. He is terrific! Our refinished kitchen table looked better than when we bought it new. I highly recommend Bill and would hire him again."

FAQs for furniture refinish projects in Akron, OH

A complete table refinishing project requires between four and eight days from start to finish. The actual hands-on work takes between two and 10 hours, with the remaining time dedicated to drying periods between applications. The stripping and sanding phases demand the most active labor, while applying finishes requires patience as each layer dries completely before proceeding.

Several elements influence dining table refinishing costs, with size being the primary factor. Larger tables or those with extensions require more materials and labor time. The wood type matters significantly—hardwoods may need specialized treatment compared to softer woods. The table's current condition also impacts pricing, as damaged surfaces need repairs before refinishing can begin.

Refinishing often proves more economical than purchasing a comparable quality replacement. Professional table refinishing costs between $150 and $400 on average, while preserving the original craftsmanship and character of your piece.

This approach makes particular sense for well-constructed wood furniture that would be expensive to replace with similar quality. For sentimental pieces or antiques, refinishing also maintains their history and personal value.

Professional furniture refinishers charge between $40 and $100 per hour for their services. This rate varies based on geographic location, the refinisher's experience level, and the complexity of the project. Some professionals offer project-based pricing rather than hourly rates, especially for standard-sized pieces like coffee tables or end tables. When requesting quotes, ask whether the estimate includes materials or represents labor costs only.

For tables with minor wear, you can sometimes refresh the appearance without complete stripping and sanding. Using gel stains and wipe-on finishes can address surface issues while preserving the existing finish underneath. This approach works best for tables with light cosmetic damage rather than those with deep scratches or damaged finishes. However, proper stripping and sanding remain necessary for comprehensive restoration or significant color changes for professional-quality results.
