Joe Kelly, the owner, is genuinely one of the most knowledgable and helpful people we've ever worked with. You can tell that he truly cares about his clients and his team and that's what makes ALL THE DIFFERENCE because they all go above and beyond to actually meet your needs rather than just trying to sell you on some high-end unit. We feel very lucky and thankful that we came across Joe and his team two years when one of our furnaces died during the middle of a horrible snowstorm. We had several companies try to overcharge us and up-sell us on more expensive units than we needed. Thankfully, Joe came out and provided us with an honest assessment of our needs and options and gave us an incredibly fair quote. His team installed the new furnace the next day! Since then, we've gone back to Polar Bear to replace our second furnace and both of our AC units (all were 15+ years old). Each and every time, Joe gave us an honest assessment, a fair quote, and his team always comes in and gets the job done without leaving a trace (even in the middle of a snow storm and the pouring rain, they even brought their own shoe covers). They are always considerate and stand by their work! A huge shout out to Edwin, Rodolfo, John, Angel, and the rest of the team for such amazing work. Our only wish is that Polar Bear provided other home services because it's difficult to find such trustworthy companies/contractors in DC. "After a friend recommended Neighborhood Specialists (NS) to me for a hot water heater and HVAC replacement , I read the reviews. What stunned me was the company only had 5 Star reviews!! Could they really be that good? I was skeptical. But after meeting Stelios and working with him, I can honestly say I am convinced. They earn every one of those 5 stars they get! For more years than I care to admit, I have been using another local HVAC company and NS far outshines them. Stelios is responsive, honest, fair, forthcoming, diligent, hard-working and you can trust what he says. Each appointment I made with NS, Stelios was there early, twice waiting for me to arrive. He respected my time was valuable. I had never experienced that with my other service provider. In fact, whenever they gave me a window of time for their arrival, they NEVER came in that window. Stelios made preparation for every contingency. On installation day, he brought a tent to cover the outside AC unit as there was rain in the forecast, which never materialized. My other company always canceled appointments if there was even a slight chance of rain. As a result, NS will be my new HVAC/hot water heater service provider going forward. "Our 2.5 ton upstairs A/C was leaking coolant, so we opted to replace it. Since downstairs unit is a Carrier, we picked Pope's to bid for the job, as they were listed by Carrier, had good marks on Angie's list, and were locally owned. Pope's Air responded the same day we called, and Tim Stewart came in the afternoon, and spent over an hour describing our options and costs. We received a competitive bid, and selected Pope's Air for the work. Our previous supplier had replaced our downstairs unit a couple of years back, and had put in a unit which stressed our ductwork, causing a whistle when loaded. Pope's Air volunteered to have a look at that problem, too, included at no charge. Pope's Air scheduled and came on time the following week. It took a day to do the work, and the installers were clean and professional. They came up with an inexpensive fix in the cold air return ducting, and implemented it. No more whistle. In the upstairs unit, they discovered some crushed ductwork which our previous supplier had ignored and replaced about 20' of ducts, all for a very reasonable upcharge. The A/C works fine, w/ a better airflow, and they will return for an inspection once the weather warms enough to exercise the unit. We plan to use Pope's Air for all of our Heating and A/C needs in the future. Highly recommended."
