"Craig was very helpful in all elements of the project. He helped us decide on color and finish for cabinet doors, on the replacement of some cabinets with drawers, and on crowning the cabinets. He was very prompt and professional throughout and we would gladly hire him again."

"Alan and his crew did a beautiful job. I was expecting two panels with a seam in the middle of the headboard and footboard. Instead, they made three panels, and used trim from left-over pieces to cover the seams. The queen size headboard and footboard look like they were originally made for the bedroom set. The bed matches the rest of the bedroom furniture, perfectly. I also want to emphasize that they refinished the wood to a beautiful shade of red/brown mahogany that also matches the rest of the furniture. (I've seen refinished red/brown mahogany end up more like dark brown.) The stain and finish were done to perfection. I couldn't be happier with our "new" headboard and footboard."

"We used Camacho in the summer of 2013 to repair and refinish two antique dressers that had been in the family for a long time.  The legs were cracked on both dressers and one or two of the legs were missing.  I stopped by his shop and brought pictures to get a rough estimate of price before having him pick them up.  Camacho repaired the legs that he could and replaced the ones that he could not, and they looked exactly like the original legs.  The refinishing was beautiful.  My mother wanted them to be refinished a little bit lighter than the original color, and they were able to do that.  They looked brand new when they were finished with them.  He had me stop by and check them before delivering to my parents, and delivery went great.  The price was very close if not exactly what he had quoted me from the pictures.  <br /> It was hard to get a hold of Alex originally.  He did not return my first call that I made, but I am glad that I called again because I am so happy with the work that they did.  I did not have a hard time getting a hold of him after he started the job.  <br />"

"I sent out 3 RFPs via Angie's List e-mail early one Sunday morning. Paula called me within an hour of my posting. I sent her photos of the work I wanted done and she sent me a proposal the next day. I waited a few days for other proposals to return but Paul/Paula's was the best--not only least expensive but also most complete. (Paul is the company name, Paula was my contact.) The proposal included new cushions (sorely needed--pun intended), stuffing and stainguard. I ordered my fabric from Joann's Fabric (40% off) and saved another $600 above the discounts Paula gave me. (I also saved $1500+ by using Joann's estimate of yardage online--other upholsterer's asked for twice as much fabric as I sent to Paul's--and they sent me fabric back!) Paula told me it would take 6 weeks for the 3 loveseats and wing chair--it took 2 weeks. I was thrilled with results and ---I had over 3 yards of fabric returned, so I sent it back to Paul's with the four additional chairs and had them reupholstered as well. I had bought this furniture 30 years ago and loved it the entire time. The upholstery had gone threadbare and the cushions were shot. Paul's essentially rebuilt the loveseats and replaced the cushions, giving me entirely new furniture of a design that I couldn't replace. I would absolutely recommend them to anybody and would use them again--if I'm still around in 30 years. I expect Paul's will be. I figure, including the 50% savings on fabric (because I only had to buy half as much), the project with Paul's cost me 30-50% less than the next nearest estimate. I couldn't be happier. Ok, one criticism. They could have use the little spiral upholstery pins to pin on the armrest covers that they included, to make them look neater. So I bought some at Joann's and did it myself. $6"

"Instead of buying a new table and chairs, we decided to have our current table repaired and refinished.  The table and chairs are like new.  Fred put a coating on the table and chairs and they are now water repellent... so really, better than new.  He also added new sliders to the bottom of the chairs so they do not scratch the floor.  It took a little extra time to get the table back; however, Fred kept in touch.  Worth the wait. <br />"

"I had a good experience with them. He did a good job. I got them from Angie's List. They are very honest. The furniture I have is very old. The bed is from the '50s and the tray table is from 1970's. I was thinking of fixing up the finish on it but he was telling me since I don't have the whole set, I gave part of the set to my daughter, that it would be a waste of money to refinish it, and then put the set together and we refinish it again and it's not going to match. He was very honest in his opinion even though he was turning down work."

"Bill is a great craftsman and very easy to work with. He has been in business a long time, and really knows his craft. He came to our home to provide an estimate, and also gave us more information about the type of wood in our 1922 bungalow. Best Way refinished the interior doors over 3 weeks, and then scheduled the exteriors doors so they could return them in 3 days. We compared their work with another refinishing company, and Best Way quality was 10x better. Bill returned phone calls quickly, and let us know about their schedule and when things would happen."

"JCA did an amazing job of not only refinishing but rebuilding our kitchen cabinets. They made cheap 30 year old Merillat cabinets look modern and appealing. They were super accommodating of our remodeling schedule and even made extra trips to complete incremental parts of the project so that other trades could perform their part in the best order. They protected the job site and contained construction dust and paint spray incredibly well. The quality of the finish rivals that of brand new and it's really hard to tell the difference. I'm running out of superlatives with good reason and couldn't be happier with their work in all respects."

FAQs for furniture refinish projects in Algonquin, IL

A complete table refinishing project requires between four and eight days from start to finish. The actual hands-on work takes between two and 10 hours, with the remaining time dedicated to drying periods between applications. The stripping and sanding phases demand the most active labor, while applying finishes requires patience as each layer dries completely before proceeding.

Several elements influence dining table refinishing costs, with size being the primary factor. Larger tables or those with extensions require more materials and labor time. The wood type matters significantly—hardwoods may need specialized treatment compared to softer woods. The table's current condition also impacts pricing, as damaged surfaces need repairs before refinishing can begin.

Refinishing often proves more economical than purchasing a comparable quality replacement. Professional table refinishing costs between $150 and $400 on average, while preserving the original craftsmanship and character of your piece.

This approach makes particular sense for well-constructed wood furniture that would be expensive to replace with similar quality. For sentimental pieces or antiques, refinishing also maintains their history and personal value.

Professional furniture refinishers charge between $40 and $100 per hour for their services. This rate varies based on geographic location, the refinisher's experience level, and the complexity of the project. Some professionals offer project-based pricing rather than hourly rates, especially for standard-sized pieces like coffee tables or end tables. When requesting quotes, ask whether the estimate includes materials or represents labor costs only.

For tables with minor wear, you can sometimes refresh the appearance without complete stripping and sanding. Using gel stains and wipe-on finishes can address surface issues while preserving the existing finish underneath. This approach works best for tables with light cosmetic damage rather than those with deep scratches or damaged finishes. However, proper stripping and sanding remain necessary for comprehensive restoration or significant color changes for professional-quality results.
