"The technician, David, arrived on time, and the company gave me the heads-up beforehand that I had requested. He went right to work, looking at the clog in my dryer (it had stopped several days earlier and the fault code told me there was a blockage), and then setting up his ladder to do the cleaning from the vent outside. He explained the process so I knew what he would be doing, and didn't seem to mind that I watched him closely. First thing we saw was a sparrow fly out of the vent, so as he noted, we could expect a bird nest. He then proceeded to pull out about a foot of nest material (thankfully only one egg and no babies). After he got out all of the big stuff, he ran a brush all the way to the dryer. Running the dryer then pushed out all of the lint. He bagged up as much as he could and took it away, but a lot of it disintegrated on touch. He assured me it would disappear in the next rain, and I'm sure it will. I then asked him about installing a bird guard, and he told me how much it would be ($85) and showed it to me. I liked the design since it does not appear it will collect lint, like one I had in a previous house, and it was metal so it should last. I had him install it. He then wrote up the invoice and I happily paid ($125 for cleaning, $85 for vent). No hidden or extra charges, no attempts to upsell. He told me that they usually recommend cleaning every two years, but given our small household size, three should probably be fine. I will be in touch with SixPenny in spring 2022."

"I purchased a roof inspection and tune-up theough Angie’s list. I was contacted quickly to set up the appointment and provided a reminder prior thereto. The technician was Mike G. who called about 10 minutes before arrival. He explained what he would do, then proceeded to inspect the attic and roof, making some repairs to the roof as necessay. When completed, we sat down to review pictures and discuss options. Mike G. explained things clearly but did not pressure us to do anything at this time. When the time comes to repair or replace the roof, we will definitely contact American Home Contractors."

I contacted George's Painting because of all the great reviews on Angie's List and am very happy that I did. I at first contacted them via email and received a prompt reply saying George would be out at 10:00 am on a Monday. I emailed back that that would be a good time for me. At 10:30 no one had come so I found a cell phone number for George who answered immediately and apologized and offered to come right away, which he did. He had not gotten the message about the 10:00 am appointment, which can happen when others are involved. George arrived and quickly understood what we needed done: we have 5 dormer windows that all had rotted wood around the glass as well as the sidesf. George suggested replacing it with PVC which will last many times longer than wood, and I was thrilled with that idea. He also suggested PVC for the outside frame of our little garage door, which had rotted away. He discussed using the highest quality Sherwin Williams paint, as well as washing the siding which had never been washed before. I was concerned that a power wash would take the paint off of our 30 year old siding but he said it wouldn't and he was right. I had had another company on Angie's list (the same company who had painted our house about 6 years ago) give me an estimate a week before and they never offered to wash the siding, only the mildewed part that they would paint. The other company said I could wash the siding myself and never offered to replace the rotted wood with PVC. They wanted to do what they had done the last time they were out which was to fill it with bondo or wood putty.  George repeated many times that they would make the house beautiful and do whatever it took to make it that way. He explained that first a crew would come out to wash the house, then another crew of carpenters to find and replace all the rotted wood, then another crew to scrape and paint. I did mention that I would like the window sills and any other surface sanded, not just scraped, but unfortunately this did not happen. I think they would have if I had asked them to but I assumed they would since I had mentioned it to George. However, the final painting job looks very good, although the little garage door really should have been sanded. However, this was the only minor thing that happened that I feel could have been done better.

The guys that washed the house were extremely careful and used a low pressure wash to methodically squirt every piece of siding from top to bottom. They did not miss one spot and I cannot believe how beautiful and clean the house came out. I even joked that now it did not need painting since it truly looked clean and fresh just from the chlorox wash. They were able to get all of the green off and every speck of black mildew, even under the eaves. These guys spent half a day just doing this.

The next work day, the carpenter Joel came and tested every piece of wood for rot. Wherever there was rot, he removed it all and cut a precise piece of PVC from the large sheets and long framing lengths he brought with him. He had all of the right equipment and was very good at measuring and cutting. He honestly worked for 5 full days and replaced twice as much as I thought there was to be replaced. I even called George and said I didn't know there was so much rot and I expected to pay more than the estimate because Joel was truly finding more - including window sills and the undersides of our mansard roof. George said he would charge just for the extra material they had to buy, which is what he did.

The next week, a large crew came and George showed me the Emerald Brand of Sherwin Williams paint and the two kinds of caulking they would be using on the house. He also pointed out that he first put primer on, then the paint, and didn't just use paint with primer in it. I had been worried about the caulking because I know that that is as important as paint for protecting against moisture, and the guys came through. Every gap was found and caulked with new white caulking appropriate for the material (siding, brick, or wood) that needed to be caulked. They must have had 6 tubes of caulking for our house. The guys worked from 7:00 am until 4:00 pm and finished in one day. George even surprised me by showing me a gallon of paint he had had especially mixed to paint our brown shutters and front door! I had not even asked for this, thinking we would just paint the white trim, and at first I was reluctant because I didn't think painting plastic shutters was a good idea, but George tested a small sample and I was sold. When the painting was all finished, the shutters and front door turned out to be the Piece de resistance! It made our house look 20 years younger and as fresh as a model home.

"We had a great experience with Mason and his crew at Sino-American. From the start, Mason's communication was excellent and he offered several design ideas that actually saved us money in the long term. We had two bathroom remodels done in our Takoma D.C. condo in October/November of 2019. Mason's team are highly skilled at their trade. The drywall work was exceptional!. His crew is respectful, punctual, and we felt comfortable having them in our home for several weeks. Mason took care of everything and was quick to respond if we had questions. We had a significant amount of tile work done and it turned out great. We couldn't be happier with our new bathrooms and glad we went with Mason. We would typically text with Mason throughout the project but he was always available by phone if needed. He also stopped by the project several times to check on the work and oversee the project. The bathroom remodels required complete demolition, relocation of plumbing, and framing. Mason is a great project manager and handles all the finer details and project timeline. He offered suggestions as the project moved along, and was sure to get input from us before he made any changes. While we chose the materials I'm sure his team could offer design ideas that would work well with any project. After seeing the completed product I would certainly use Sino-American for future projects and would recommend them to anyone. In fact, we would consider buying a home that needed a total remodel, and hire Sino-American to do the job. Great work and thanks for being professionals at what you do!"

"From the very first contact through Angie's List messages, Paul and Patrick were extremely responsive and courteous.
They quickly set up a diagnostic meeting, explained the process and gathered every bit of information needed.
Patrick showed up on time, listened, examined the damage area and took the time to explain all options, costs, and complexities of the project. He answered all of my questions and understood my concerns.
Because we were dealing with unknown factors, he recommended using a camera into the ceiling to assess the damages. I felt more confident taking the repairs in stages rather than bringing down the ceiling as a first recourse.
Once the situation was assessed, we agreed on the best and most efficient way to address the damage. Patrick is very considerate to the homeowner's needs and concerns. He promised to make it as easy on me as possible, a promise he kept in spite of the messy nature of the job.
Patrick was also flexible and understanding when plans changed overnight to add on more repairs or tackle them in a different way. He still showed up on time, even on a snow day, with all the needed material and proceeded to do the repairs as agreed.
Also, we very much appreciated his advice on related issues, such as lighting and plumbing. 
Ultimately, Patrick and Paul function very well as a team. We certainly recommend them to any home owner, especially condo ones, when it comes to sealing and insulation issues."
