Customers say: Quick response

"Jordan was awesome! He initially sent one of his guys out to check for some gurgling and sediment in our plumbing in the basement. They took a good look and found some grading issues with our pipes. Jordan followed up with me after and then committed to coming out himself to determine options. Throughout it all he was very communicative and extremely knowledgeable. We discussed some options and moved forward with the one that made the most sense. The issue was addressed and Jordan followed up later on to make sure everything was still good. Highly recommend Jordan and team dr.drain!"

Customers say: Terrific value

"We obtained 3 other quotes and the owner Joseâ s quote was more competitive. After speaking with him at our home, we felt confident that his team had the expertise to install our French drain. He was proactive in his communication and responsive to our many questions and concerns. The team were polite, quick, efficient and many of our neighbors commented afterward that they couldnâ t tell that our yard had ever been disturbed. We highly recommend Jose and his team, and will use them when itâ s time for us to install xeriscaping in our yard."

"We hired Groundworks to install a sump pump, expecting professional work and peace of mind. Unfortunately, the experience was anything but that. First, the team showed up 2 weeks after the initial visit. Worse than the delay was the complete lack of communication throughout the process ? getting updates or even basic responses was frustratingly difficult. The biggest issue, however, was the quality of the work. Their installation was poorly executed, and we ended up having to hire another company to fix their mistake ? costing us even more money on top of what we already paid Groundworks. We trusted them with an important job in our home and feel completely let down. I would not recommend Groundworks to anyone looking for reliable, professional service."

"Eric did an excellent job repairing our hose bib. He was punctual, professional, and clearly knowledgeable about the work he was doing. He arrived right on time, explained the issue, and completed the repair efficiently. We really appreciated his attention to detail and the care he took to make sure everything was working properly before leaving. Highly recommend Eric for anyone needing reliable and quality plumbing work!"

FAQs for sump pump or interior foundation drains installation projects in Arvada, CO

Most residential pumps draw approximately 1,300 to 2,900 watts when they first start, then settle at roughly 800 to 1,050 watts during normal operation. The exact number depends on the motor’s horsepower and how often the float switch tells the pump to run. Even at the high end, the electricity cost is minor compared with the expense of cleaning up a flooded basement.

Grab a ruler and an empty 18‑inch‑wide pit. During a steady rain, time how much the water rises in one minute. Multiply that depth (in inches) by 60 to calculate gallons per hour, then add 50% for safety. If the result tops 2,100 gallons per hour—about 35 gallons a minute—you’ll need a 3/4‑horsepower unit. Anything lower, and a 1/3- or 1/2-horsepower pump should do the trick.

Loud rattling, constant cycling, or shuddering vibrations are the pump’s way of telling you it’s on its last legs. Musty smells, higher electric bills, and visible rust are other red flags. If the unit is 10 years old or older and exhibits any of these symptoms, replace it before the next heavy rain turns your basement into a wading pool.

You don’t have to hire a licensed plumber, but you should still bring in someone who installs sump pumps for a living—whether that’s a plumber, basement‑waterproofing specialist, or experienced handyman. They know the local codes, can wire the pump safely, and will test the system before they leave. Skipping professional help might void the warranty and could leave you with a pump that fails when you need it most.

Not every basement needs a pump, but if your home sits in a floodplain, has a high water table, or has ever taken on water during a storm, a sump pump is inexpensive insurance. For basements that only struggle with condensation or the occasional damp spot, sealing cracks and improving drainage may be all that is needed.
