"Our business hired Henry to paint a mural on our wall and provide restoration work on some antique furniture. We explained what direction we wanted, he listened and then did an amazing job. Since the painting was completed we have gotten non-stop compliments from customers who stop to admire it when they walk through the front door. He also restored several pieces of furniture to a pristine level: â brand newâ in an antique sense. After he was done, the gouges, chips, and knicks in the surface were visually gone. The tables also seem to be holding up better in general, as they see a lot of wear and tear through constant use. We hired them again later on to epoxy some tables, and paint calligraphy on the wall. We at Open Door Tea couldnâ t be happier with the Henryâ s work on this mural and restoration. I would recommend him to anyone and any business."

"The estimate was a bit higher than the other estimates I received, though I think it was a very fair price.  He was extremely professional and really seemed to know what he was doing; although I did not hire him for this job I thought he seemed extremely competent and trustworthy, and I would definitely consider him for future refinishing jobs."

"I had an antique maple wood rocking chair that had a broken leg. It was in my family for more than 50 years and so had sentimental value. Paul Martino fixed the leg and refinished it with the same color, a golden hickory, and a semi-gloss finish. He did a beautiful job for a good price. He even delivered it my house which I was not expecting. I highly recommend Eddie's Furniture Refinishing."

"Gary evaluated the piece and offered some suggestions on how to go about restoring the cabinet so that I could use it as an entertainment center with a television on top. The cabinet was restored and fitted with shelves for components. You can't tell that there were alterations made and Gary even succeeded in preserving some original details that might well have been lost. <br />"

"Redoing my kitchen counter top was a big job. I hadn't gone through the process before but working with Kitchen Magic staff made it easy. I had a great experience working with them - from the initial sales, all the way through installation. Their people, from start to finish, were friendly and very professional! They did a great job! My counter top looks awesome. I would highly recommend them again to all my friends and family."

FAQs for furniture refinish projects in Basking Ridge, NJ

A complete table refinishing project requires between four and eight days from start to finish. The actual hands-on work takes between two and 10 hours, with the remaining time dedicated to drying periods between applications. The stripping and sanding phases demand the most active labor, while applying finishes requires patience as each layer dries completely before proceeding.

Several elements influence dining table refinishing costs, with size being the primary factor. Larger tables or those with extensions require more materials and labor time. The wood type matters significantly—hardwoods may need specialized treatment compared to softer woods. The table's current condition also impacts pricing, as damaged surfaces need repairs before refinishing can begin.

Refinishing often proves more economical than purchasing a comparable quality replacement. Professional table refinishing costs between $150 and $400 on average, while preserving the original craftsmanship and character of your piece.

This approach makes particular sense for well-constructed wood furniture that would be expensive to replace with similar quality. For sentimental pieces or antiques, refinishing also maintains their history and personal value.

Professional furniture refinishers charge between $40 and $100 per hour for their services. This rate varies based on geographic location, the refinisher's experience level, and the complexity of the project. Some professionals offer project-based pricing rather than hourly rates, especially for standard-sized pieces like coffee tables or end tables. When requesting quotes, ask whether the estimate includes materials or represents labor costs only.

For tables with minor wear, you can sometimes refresh the appearance without complete stripping and sanding. Using gel stains and wipe-on finishes can address surface issues while preserving the existing finish underneath. This approach works best for tables with light cosmetic damage rather than those with deep scratches or damaged finishes. However, proper stripping and sanding remain necessary for comprehensive restoration or significant color changes for professional-quality results.
