"Andrew from Benjamin Franklin Plumbing is now our future plumber for our first home. Since day 1 this company has been fair on pricing and their quality of work. The manager Ned personally delivered our 50 gallon electric unit himself and gave me some thoughts of the plumbing of the house that will be useful in the near future. These next few months I already have jobs lined up for Andrew regarding our plumbing issues. Thank you Home Advisor for setting this up! I also appreciated the call from home advisors customer service to make sure the project had been done correctly."

"I needed my water heater to be replaced. I am very happy with this wonderful company. Everyone I spoke to over the phone to start was so professional but yet really personable. Dave was a pleasure to talk to and made me feel like I had no worries. Also they quoted the job 400.00 less than many. They were here within an hour of my call and Rob Mondi and his team were just as professional and nice. They explained everything they would do and kept me posted throughout the job. They were always cleaning the floor as they were in and out and had no problem maneuvering the old and new water heater up and down the very narrow staircase that was almost impossible with ease. There were workers outside doing our storm sewers and they hit our gas line while the install was being done and because of this, Rob made sure they called Ni-Gas and explained to me what needed to be done with the heater when Nigas came in the house. He also gave me his business card and cell number in case they donâ t do what is needed and he would come out. I will recommend them to everyone and I got a quote for my furnace to be replaced also."

"This provider was the third I called (all from Angies list with A ratings) but the first who answered the phone with a person versus voicemail. Since I needed help ASAP after my gas service was shut off due to a leak, I hung up on the voicemails.
The team came to my house within two hours of my call.
They first checked my gas lines again to make sure Nicor didn't miss anything, using an air pressure testing method that Nicor did not bother with, but which gave better and more complete results.
Once that was done, and there was an initial cost for the service, which they discussed in full with me prior to commencing, they gave me a report on where the leaks were and what it wold take and cost to fix them. Two of the leaks were 'freebies' because there was trivial work involved (doping and tightening screw fixtures) and the other two required additional work. The price was reasonable, I approved the work, and they executed the whole thing in about 2 hours. They finished in time for me to have Nicor back out to reinspect and turn the gas back on the same day, so I can do laundry, cook dinner and bathe the kids again - no sleepovers at relatives waiting on a fix.
I will have them back out to do other, unrelated work in the future for certain."

"This is hands down the best company we have work on our house in any capacity, and we've had a load of people work on our ancient house. We had an intermittent smell in our home for years, many contractors and tuck pointers and plumbers failed to fix. Brad from Scottish Plumber literally smoked it out. Found a wide open sewer pipe in our walls, source of a lot of sickness (fatigue and breathing problems) and smell for years. We feel better already. Darlene at the office was super to deal with. The plumbers showed up when they said they would. Brad and Arturo fixed the problem, and cleaned up behind themselves. Hire these guys. Really! I just so wish we had a decade ago. I can't imagine the damage a decade of sewer gas did to my kids. But won't any more, thanks to the folks at Scottish Plumber."

FAQs for gas piping projects in Big Rock, IL

Plumbers with proper licensing and credentials install and relocate gas lines. When hiring a professional, verify they have experience with gas systems and all required certifications. Some homeowners choose to work with plumbers specializing in natural gas installations, as they have extensive experience with similar projects and understand the safety requirements.

The timeline for gas line relocation varies based on project complexity, permit processing, and inspection scheduling. The physical labor takes a few hours to one day, depending on the line length. However, the actual installation work represents only part of the overall project timeline. Your contractor should provide a specific timeframe based on your circumstances and local permitting requirements.

Your gas supply must be shut off during the relocation process. This safety measure prevents gas leaks while connections are being modified. Plan for this temporary service interruption by making alternative arrangements for cooking, heating, or other gas-dependent systems in your home. The shut-off generally only lasts for a portion of the work, often a few hours.

Relocating gas lines to connect new appliances is a common reason for this type of project. Whether you're installing a gas stove, fireplace, dryer, or outdoor grill, a professional can determine the best route for extending your existing gas system. The cost will depend on the distance between your current gas line and the new appliance location.

Gas line work is not suitable for DIY projects. Natural gas is highly flammable and potentially lethal if not handled correctly. Gas leaks can be difficult to detect without specialized equipment. Professional plumbers have the proper training, tools, and experience to safely relocate gas lines while ensuring compliance with local building codes and safety standards.
