"Tim is the best service technician! He was out today today for a maintenance and service call. He is very experienced and clearly explained what was needed and to recap at the end of the visit! I first started working Sheer Comfort in 2023 when they installed a new AC & Gas furnace for my home. I obtained 5 quotes from highly rated companies before deciding which company to engage. I worked with Travis Shearer (owner) on deciding which options were best for my home and I was impressed with his knowledge, fair pricing and ease to work with. The project was well supervised by Carl and installed by David & Eli......they were all great to work with. Tonya in the office was excellent in keeping me posted on timelines and managing the coordination for permitting and coordinating with the 3 sub-contractors needed for running gas lines and electrical to connect my new furnace and for a plumber to make changes to my water heater from my old gas forced air system. Sheer Comfort is the best!"

"Zachary was punctual, professional and diligent.  While flushing out the hot water heater, he elucidated me on the electrical components of the hot water heater unit, adjusted the thermostat to a more suitable setting after my home inspector had set it too high (130 degrees), and gave me very helpful tips on what to look out for as my hot water heater ages.  He also advised me on water pressure issues that could arise and how to avert those kinds of disasters as well.  It was not only a service-related call but one that was highly educational as well.  As a first-time homeowner, I appreciated that he was willing to answer my questions and not only inform me about how things work but actually show me what to look for and where to look.
I'm very pleased with the work and the accessible communication in scheduling this appointment.  I'm also happy that I've now found a plumber that I could call in the future and whom I could recommend to others with praise!  Thank you Zachary and All Ways Plumbing!

"I had some good experiences with Mike’s Heating. The best was the installers were very nice and friendly. They seemed to do good work. I really don’t have any bad issues. I think they could have done a little better with follow up in terms of checking how things were going, suggesting annual service and stuff like that. I haven’t really heard much from them since. I remember it wasn’t cheap, but it was reasonable, no worse than anyone else."

"Job was delayed but once it got underway, it was completed as promised. We found Handyman Xpress to be very reputable and are very pleased with the work. The ceilings are beautiful! We did experience some difficulty getting in touch with Eric at times but for us it was ok because we were not in a urgent situation. We found that he would contact us when he became available so learned to be patient and wait for him. Since we are seasonal residents, it is important to us to have a company we can rely on to provide all sorts of services. We found Handyman Xpress to be this type of company and will hire again in the future for other needs."

FAQs for window a/c unit service or relocation projects in Black Mountain, NC

If your window air conditioner is relatively new or of high quality, repairing it can restore optimal performance and protect your investment. However, for older units or those with ongoing issues, it might be more cost-effective to replace the unit to ensure long-term efficiency and reliability. Consider the unit's age, the severity of the problem, repair costs versus replacement, and energy efficiency ratings when making your decision. If repairs cost more than half the price of a new unit, replacement is typically the better option.

Window air conditioners last eight to ten years on average. After this time, you may notice decreased efficiency and component wear. Replacing an older unit can improve energy savings and provide updated features like remote controls and better overall performance. With proper maintenance including regular filter cleaning, coil checks, and professional servicing, you can maximize your unit's lifespan.

If your portable AC isn't cooling, it might have a refrigerant leak or a circuit malfunction that's preventing it from working properly. It's best to contact a local air conditioner contractor to inspect and repair the unit. If your AC is older and repairs don't fix the issue, replacing it might be the most effective solution.

Removing a wall-mounted AC costs $55 to $75. Completing the removal yourself at the end of each summer season, being sure to do so according to proper guidelines, keeps you within this cost range. Should you require professional assistance for removal and disposal, if you can't move the unit yourself, expect an added fee of $25 to $50 to the overall cost.
